Job Description
Prestige Consumer Healthcare is a company that focuses on product innovation and quality in the over-the-counter healthcare and women’s health categories to better improve the lives of our customers and their world. For generations, our trusted brands have helped consumers care for themselves and their loved ones. We are one of the largest independent providers of over-the-counter products in North America, and we are constantly improving and creating products that match the ever-changing lifestyles and needs of people and families everywhere.
JOB SUMMARY: As Manager, Industrial Design, you will shape the next generation of consumer healthcare products across Prestige’s device portfolio, with primary responsibility for Breathe Right, DenTek, and Compound W and occasional support for other device and device-adjacent brands. You will transform consumer insights and brand strategies into differentiated, intuitive, and manufacturable products that improve consumers’ everyday health and wellness. In this highly collaborative role, you will lead industrial design and front-end innovation from early concept development through design refinement and transfer to engineering and manufacturing partners. You will partner with Marketing, Consumer Insights, Regulatory, Quality, Legal, Supply Chain, and global suppliers to advance Class I and Class II OTC medical devices from idea to market. This is an opportunity for a hands-on design leader to influence product strategy, build a strong innovation pipeline, strengthen external development partnerships, and develop a growing technical team within a portfolio of trusted consumer healthcare brands. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES/ACTIVTIES:- Lead industrial design, innovation strategy, portfolio prioritization, and R&D activities across Prestige’s device portfolio, including Breathe Right, DenTek, Compound W, and other device-related brands.
- Partner with Marketing, Consumer Insights, Regulatory, Legal, Quality, and Supply Chain to drive user-centered design and consumer-focused product development by translating consumer needs, business objectives, and technical requirements into successful product designs.
- Define product design requirements, user experience goals, product architecture, and design specifications for new and existing device-related products.
- Lead front-end innovation activities, including competitive benchmarking, concept development prototyping, design evaluation, and portfolio pipeline development.
- Directly manage and develop the Senior Biomedical Engineer, including goal setting, workload prioritization, performance management, coaching, and alignment of technical activities with portfolio objectives and innovation strategies.
- Collaborate with the Senior Biomedical Engineer to ensure appropriate integration of human factors, product performance, verification, validation, and claims substantiation activities.
- Collaborate with CDMOs and third-party engineering service providers on design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA), design refinement, and design transfer activities to support product scalability, quality, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and manufacturability
- Evaluate emerging technologies, materials, consumer trends, and competitive products to identify innovation opportunities and strategic growth platforms.
- Support intellectual property strategy through invention development, patent review, and collaboration with Legal and outside counsel on freedom-to-operate activities.
- Create and maintain industrial design outputs and supporting design control documentation in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System, ISO 13485, and applicable regulatory requirements, including user needs, design inputs, product specifications, drawings, prototypes, design reviews, risk management inputs, verification and validation support, design transfer, and design changes.
- Communicate project progress, innovation strategies, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a closely related physical-product design discipline required.
- Professional portfolio demonstrating consumer product design, user-centered design, concept development, visualization, prototyping, design refinement, and manufacturable product solutions.
- 10+ years of progressive industrial design and product development experience in consumer products, consumer healthcare, medical devices, or related product categories.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, and hands-on experience developing prototypes using 3D printing and other rapid-prototyping methods.
- Demonstrated experience translating consumer insights, market opportunities, and business objectives into differentiated product concepts and innovation pipelines, with strong expertise in user-centered design, ergonomics, human factors, product architecture, and design-for manufacturing principles.
- Prior direct people-management experience, including responsibility for performance management, employee development, goal setting, and workload prioritization for technical or design professionals.
- Experience developing Class I and/or Class II medical devices, consumer healthcare products, or other regulated products is preferred.
- Working knowledge of design controls, risk management, product verification and validation, claims substantiation, and applicable regulatory requirements for medical devices and other regulated products is preferred.
- Ability to support intellectual property development, including patent review, invention generation, and freedom-to-operate activities.
- Strong project and portfolio management, cross-functional leadership, prioritization, and decision making skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, balance resources, and address competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate product-development trade-offs and make sound recommendations that balance consumer needs, technical feasibility, regulatory requirements, cost, development timelines, and commercial objectives.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, product specifications, design control records,
professional publications, business information, and applicable regulatory requirements. Ability to prepare clear
