Admissions Specialist I Work Location: Texas Health HEB, 1600 Hospital Pkwy, Bedford, TX 76022 Work Hours: PRN (as needed) Rotating Shifts – Admitting Department Highlights: Great working environment with plenty of learning opportunities. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: 1 year relevant customer service experience required; 2 years professional office/healthcare experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications: CHAA – Certified Healthcare Access Associate upon hire preferred. CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training maintained annually 90 days required. Skills: Ability to promptly assess requests by using electronic and paper resource materials and correctly respond to patient inquiries. Excellent data entry, numeric, typing, and computer navigation skills with attention to detail. Proficient computer skills, medical terminology, Epic, Microsoft Office, and assorted software programs. Demonstrates a pleasant, professional demeanor, critical thinking, troubleshooting abilities. Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and communication skills, professional telephone etiquette. Maintains calm in stressful emotional environments, including crime, behavioral health, and life‑or‑death situations. High empathy and effective communication with patients and families during life‑changing events, with exceptional customer service. Manages multiple changing priorities and escalates concerns appropriately. What You Will Do Compassionately welcome patients and families, setting the tone for the visit. Accurately gather complete demographic information to ensure EHR integrity. Identify correct network coverage, obtain or validate benefits and pre‑certification for applicable tests and procedures to maximize reimbursement. Educate patients and families on legal, ethical, and compliance documents; ensure regulatory consents are signed. Engage patients to understand financial obligations, prepare accurate estimates, collect copayments, deposits, and balances. Ensure all payor and government required elements—MSPQ, IMM, medical necessity checking (ABN, Letter of Non‑Coverage)—are completed correctly. Stay current with regulations and operating system policies and procedures. Maintain customer service and productivity guidelines set by leadership. Mentor peers, exhibit flexibility, and adapt to change. Participate in staff meetings, process improvement, special projects, and other duties as assigned. Maintain daily Epic queue and Employee Scorecard Dashboard. Maintain awareness of THR contracted insurance plans and communicate out‑of‑network issues and potential financial implications.
