Overview The Shipping Supervisor at Hampton Lumber is the last set of eyes on every load that leaves this mill. This role is responsible for leading the shipping and warehouse team, ensuring accurate and timely order fulfillment, coordinating inbound and outbound freight, and maintaining the high standards our customers depend on. You will oversee forklift operators, shipping clerks, and yard personnel while driving a culture of safety, accuracy, and accountability. Competitive pay commensurate with experience Stable, full-time employment with a growing, family-owned lumber company A leadership role with real responsibility and direct impact on customer satisfaction A workplace that values safety, accuracy, and the people who deliver both Opportunity to grow within the organization Benefits Highlights Substantial company-paid assistance for Medical and Dental insurance premiums; mental health coverage; cost effective co-pays and deductibles 401(k) with 5% annual company contribution and generous company matching contributions vested over three years Paid time off, including eight paid holidays Participation in the employee bonus program Employee wellness program that includes free counseling sessions, financial and legal guidance, and more Opportunities for paid training to support career advancement and personal development Responsibilities Supervise and direct all shipping and warehouse personnel — setting clear daily priorities and holding the team accountable to them Coordinate outbound lumber shipments — verifying load accuracy, product quality, and documentation before departure Manage inbound freight and parts receiving — ensuring materials are logged, stored, and communicated to the appropriate departments Schedule and dispatch trucks in coordination with the sales and logistics team to meet customer delivery commitments Oversee forklift operations in the shipping yard — enforcing safe practices and efficient traffic flow Maintain accurate shipping records, bills of lading, and load documentation — zero tolerance for shipping errors Monitor inventory levels in the shipping warehouse and communicate shortages or overages to production leadership Lead pre-shift meetings — communicating load schedules, safety topics, and team expectations Train and develop shipping department associates, building skill and ownership at every level Enforce all safety policies, housekeeping standards, and PPE requirements across the department Serve as the primary point of contact between the shipping floor and internal departments — production, maintenance, and administration Qualifications Experience & Knowledge Prior supervisory or lead experience in a shipping, warehouse, or logistics environment — lumber or building materials experience a plus Working knowledge of freight documentation — bills of lading, load confirmations, and shipping manifests Familiarity with forklift operations and yard management in a high-volume production setting Experience coordinating with carriers, brokers, or logistics teams to manage pickup schedules Basic computer proficiency — inventory tracking, documentation, and communication systems Who You Are Organized — you manage multiple loads, multiple drivers, and multiple priorities without dropping the ball Accountable — when something ships wrong, you own it and fix it; when it ships right, your team gets the credit Safety-first — the yard is a high-traffic environment and you treat it that way every shift A communicator — you keep production, management, and customers informed without being asked Detail-oriented — product grades, load counts, and paperwork matter; you check before you sign Calm under pressure — peak shipping periods and tight windows don't rattle you What We Expect Lead from the floor — be present in the yard and warehouse, not behind a desk Ensure every load that leaves this facility is accurate, safe, and properly documented Build a shipping team that takes pride in getting it right the first time Keep the yard clean, organized, and operating safely at all times Communicate proactively — shipping delays, inventory gaps, and personnel issues should never be surprises to management Complete all required documentation — shift logs, downtime reports, and handoffs — consistently and accurately More About Us The timber and wood products industry is a vital part of many communities, and we’re excited to bring new opportunities to Allendale County, South Carolina.
