Respiratory TechnicianUnder the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist, responsible for providing technical support to Respiratory staff and assisting in the delivery of patient care following hospital and departmental policies, procedures and standards of care.Essential Responsibilities:Completes and documents, physical assessments, vital signs.Provides routine patient care such as Aerosol therapy, Oxygen rounds, EKG's, and CPR.Provides general clerical support to unit such as answering phone, data entry, assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.Transcribes physician orders and notifies appropriate parties of orders and consultations.Performs general unit support activities such as keeping work area clean and presentable, running errands, making delivers.Maintains medical record in an orderly fashion with documents placed under appropriate chart dividers.Performs proper labeling of specimens and follows laboratory procedure for patient identification.Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.Required Competencies:Technical/ClinicalThorough knowledge of routine patient care practices and procedures.Demonstrates the ability to accurately assess patient/resident condition.Demonstrates the ability to perform patient care procedures in a safe and effective manner.Demonstrates the ability to accurately observe and collect patient data regarding the condition of the assigned patient, specific to the age group(s) served.Enhances individual and unit professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and by reading current literature concerning scope of practice.Maintains professional licensure, certifications, and unit-specific competencies, as required by hospital and specialty area.Demonstrates the ability to perform electrocardiograms and report test data.Reports changes in patient condition to the appropriate person in a timely and responsible manner.Demonstrates knowledge of labeling specimens.CommunicationAbility to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a positive, consistent, enthusiastic, and open manner with internal and external customers, including patients/residents, staff, physicians, leadership, volunteers, and the general public.Ability to create and maintain internal and external relationships necessary to effectively accomplish job-related goals and objectives.Ability to maintain confidentiality in patient, personnel, and donor communications.Demonstrates a caring respect for the dignity of all others.Communicates with individuals about issues as they arise, in a direct and timely manner.Demonstrates a willingness to listen first to understandCustomer FocusPromotes positive internal and external customer relations by actively seeking and being responsive to customer feedback.Ability to support and participate in continuous quality improvement activities.Thorough knowledge of and respect for patient, employee, and donor rights.Provides customer service within established deadlines, consistent with organizational values, standards, and policies.Team OrientationAbility to establish and maintain collaborative work relationships.Shares information necessary for team members (departmental and interdepartmental) to effectively plan, anticipate, and be proactive participants in the service provided.Discusses issues with team input and compromises when necessary to reach team consensus.Participates in staff meetings, committees, educational activities, and special projects and task forces.Minimum Qualifications:Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a Paramedic training program.Experience: One-year experience in the pre-hospital setting preferred. Nursing assistant experience preferred. Familiarity with Windows applications preferred. Coursework in medical terminology preferred.Licensure: Current State of Michigan Paramedic license or National Paramedic Registration required. Current BLS/ ACLS certification by American Heart Association. TCEMCA authorization.Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Extensive walking and standing. Lifts, positions, pushes, and transfers patients. Regularly exposed to the risk of blood born diseases and unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness). Must be able to handle emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular work schedules.
