Exciting Opportunity for an Academic Pediatric Surgeon in Southern California

Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Surgery, Pediatric Surgery Division

Overview of the Role:

Our organization is on the lookout for a fellowship-trained pediatric surgeon to become part of our esteemed team as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery. This role involves joining a group of five surgeons in a dynamic academic setting at our children’s hospital, which features 242 beds and is home to an ACGME-accredited pediatric surgery fellowship program.

Currently, our facility operates as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, equipped with a 26-bed emergency department, an 84-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a 25-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. We handle a significant volume of oncology cases and have extensive sub-specialty support. Our referral base encompasses around 1.2 million children, covering a quarter of California and representing one of the fastest-growing population areas in the nation.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong dedication to research and education, collaborating closely with medical students, surgical residents, and fellows. The division manages a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program and a Clinical Research Scholar Program for residents interested in pediatric surgery. Our department also boasts a funded basic science lab focused on necrotizing enterocolitis and related neonatal issues, welcoming those with similar research interests. Additionally, we are excited about the upcoming launch of a fetal surgery center this fall.

All surgeons in our team engage in a busy clinical practice, emphasizing advanced minimally invasive techniques for neonatal and pediatric procedures, including robotic surgery. As a Level 1 trauma center, we are responsible for all pediatric trauma cases and are recognized as an EMCO center of excellence.

Faculty members interested in global surgery can take part in our division’s extensive global surgery initiatives, including the activities of our non-profit Global Pediatric Specialist Alliance and the Center for Global Surgery.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting base salary for this position ranges from $425,000 to $525,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or incentive pay and is subject to the department's compensation plan.
