American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a busy Emergency Department requiring 3+ years of ED experience and an active IL RN license.

Details:

• 231-bed teaching hospital emergency department with no trauma designation
• 24-bed unit averaging 115 patients per day
• Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics with diagnoses including minor trauma, sepsis, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, respiratory and cardiac issues, and AMS
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5, with the 5th patient being lower acuity during surge times
• Travelers not expected to work the triage area
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 36 hours per week
• Variable shift start times depending on the specific requisition
• Every other weekend rotation, rarely back-to-back
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• No floating required
• Support staff includes ER Techs, Charge RN, RRT, phlebotomy for hard sticks, and hospitalists
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and bedside and central station monitors

Requirements:

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required; PALS preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ER experience required
• Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience preferred
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation and strong IV skills required
• Basic ED knowledge of drips and medication administration required
• Experience obtaining EKGs required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information:

• First-time travelers accepted with 3+ years of ED experience
• Facility orientation includes NEO with a few hours with an educator for system access and modules, plus 1-2 shifts on the unit
• Schedules are created in 6-week increments and provided 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the schedule
• No self-scheduling and no block scheduling available; flexibility required
• RTO approval available for up to 7 days
• Summer holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, and July 4th
• Winter holiday coverage required for 1 day from each group: Thanksgiving Day or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available in designated areas
• No artificial fingernails or extenders permitted for direct patient care; natural nail tips must be kept under 1/2 inch
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius rules
• Former Advocate Health employees or subsidiary employees must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
• Second interview with the unit manager required as part of the clinical interview process
