Job Purpose and Objectives:

Responsible for deterring crime through regular patrolling of neighborhoods, highways and other public spaces in Montgomery County.

Position Requirements and Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent

2. 21 years old and able to pass a background check

Certifications / Licenses:

1. Complete an accredited Police Academy (KLETC, etc.)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

1. Ability to be aware of the cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds of citizens

2. Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work

3. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently

4. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner

5. Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment

6. Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously

7. Strong written and verbal communication skills

8. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills

9. Strong math, spelling, computer, and calculator abilities

10. Ability to communicate in a professional, calm, and courteous manner with the general public and employees

11. Attention to detail

Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule, shift assignments, and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

  1. Patrols assigned areas, which include neighborhoods, highways, business districts, and other public spaces, to deter criminal activity
  2. Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls promptly related to crimes in progress, traffic accidents, disturbances, medical emergencies, and other urgent situations
  3. Handles routine calls such as noise complaints, property disputes, and community requests for assistance
  4. Prevents crime through a visible presence in the community
  5. Interacts with residents to build relationships, provide crime prevention advice, and encourage community cooperation
  6. Enforces traffic laws by issuing citations for speeding, running red lights, driving under the influence, and other traffic infractions
  7. Enforces criminal laws, arrests suspects, and investigates crimes that may occur
  8. Responds to traffic accidents, assesses the scene for injuries or hazards, provides emergency assistance, and documents
  9. Assists people in need by interacting with residents and local businesses to understand their concerns and offer safety tips
  10. Responds to natural disasters or large-scale emergencies to ensure public safety
  11. Handles high stress situations such as hostage scenarios, barricades, or violent disturbances, working with specialized units
  12. Testifies in court about incidents they investigated or arrests they made, providing testimony based on their reports
  13. Works with other agencies to assist in other jurisdictions during large-scale events or emergencies
  14. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  15. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  16. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  17. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
  18. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic
