Details Title: Research Project Manager Job Number: 26000901 Department: Research and Innovation Services (RIS) Employment Type: Fixed Term – Full Time Contract Duration: 24 Months Closing Date: 02-Aug-2026 Context 'Reimagining Pathways into Environmental Science through Showcasing Technical Careers' is a 29‑month project at Durham University funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The project aims to empower young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds into a technical career in environmental science. This work focuses on promoting technical careers, T Level placements, and partnerships between regional Further Education colleges and environmental science industrial partners. Findings will influence T Level policy and curriculum development. The Role The Research Project Manager will shape and enable the delivery of the project, working with further education colleges, regional industry partners and national organisations. Key responsibilities include: Co‑design and deliver complex project workstreams, ensuring effective collaboration across teams. Manage project administration – timelines, deliverables, budgeting, and meeting administration. Support workstream leads in organising key activities, including T Level placement opportunities and stakeholder engagement. Lead on event organisation, marketing, and the communications and engagement plan. Coordinate the project reporting phase and final close of the project, ensuring risks are mitigated and managed. Disseminate project outcomes and best practices to wider audiences. Contribute to the development of a positive research culture and the Technician Commitment. Responsibilities Provide specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including senior staff. Manage the delivery of activities and events related to the project across the University. Review and improve systems and procedures relevant to your area of work. Ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines. Develop and deliver training and support for stakeholders as needed. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date project documentation, including budget tracking. Participate in business meetings, working groups and sub‑committees, and provide guidance on policy compliance. Qualifications & Experience Experience of working within a research management and/or project management environment. Experience supporting a team towards a collective endeavour. Robust understanding and passion for the development of a positive research culture. Degree level education (or equivalent experience). Professional practice involving the delivery of services, events and activities. Experience implementing policies and procedures and supporting change and service improvements. Experience providing specialist advice to a range of stakeholders. Experience in a Higher Education institution. Knowledge of the rapidly changing operation and culture of Higher Education. Relevant project management qualification. Skills, Abilities and Knowledge Excellent spoken and written communication skills. Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and applications, including Microsoft 365. Commitment to continuing professional development. Knowledge of regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines. Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Ability to develop effective working relationships, internally and externally. Working Arrangements This role is full time (35 hours per week) located in the North East of England. Flexible working requests, including job shares, may be considered.
