Sr. Medical Bill Examiner - Coder

Position Overview Senior Medical Billing Examiner – CJ10DN. Join The Hartford, an insurance company committed to exceeding coverage expectations and supporting employees’ professional growth. Responsibilities Perform medical bill review and investigation of medical invoices to determine reimbursement based on applicable workers’ compensation statutes and/or regulations. Analyze bills for proper assignment of detailed medical coding information. Interpret workers’ compensation rules for repricing. Enter and correct data of medical bill information. Ensure accurate billing per the American Medical Association. Review medical documentation to support billing. Discuss coding with medical providers. Qualifications Preferred and required qualifications include: Certified AAPC or AHIMA Certified Coding Designation; ability to obtain certification is a requirement. Medical terminology/coding coursework or experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical bill processing or coding. Excellent data entry, computer literacy, and strong keyboard skills. Excellent communication skills and problem‑solving ability. High school diploma or equivalent; some college or equivalent experience preferred. Demonstrated competency, initiative, customer focus, composure, active listening, time management, priority setting, and ability to multi‑task. DNA Core Certification (preferred). Remote Work Arrangement This role offers a hybrid or remote arrangement. Candidates living near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Naperville, IL) are expected to work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday–Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will work remotely, with occasional office visits as business needs arise. Compensation The annualized base pay range for this role is $49,920 - $74,880. Base pay may vary based on performance, proficiency, and demonstration of required competencies.
