Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, provide computational and experimental assistance for interdisciplinary studies involving computational and molecular biology. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Apply and evaluate computational tools for protein engineering. Develop, organize, and maintain reproducible computational pipelines for model execution, data processing, and analysis. Maintain well-structured project directories, datasets, documentation, and computational workflows. Design primers, plasmids, and molecular constructs for experimental validation. Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including PCR, electrophoresis, DNA purification, and related methods. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong interest in computational and molecular biology, protein engineering, and interdisciplinary research, with attention to detail and willingness to learn new computational and laboratory techniques. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with Python, machine learning, Linux-based computing, molecular biology, or cell culture is desirable but not required; specialized training will be provided as needed. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Work Environment: Lab and computational environment with moderate noise. Work may involve biological materials and hazardous chemicals commonly used in molecular biology laboratories.
