Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: ER/Medsurg/Swing RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year of ER experience, must have charge experience License: Yes Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Critical access experience is strongly preferred Description: MUST HAVE 1 YEAR OF ER EXPERIENCE. MUST HAVE CHARGE EXPERIENCE. Common diagnoses/types of patients include traumas, strokes, STEMIs, chest pains, respiratory diagnoses, and lacerations for ER. For Medsurg, common patients range from pediatrics to geriatrics and may include pneumonia and UTIs, as well as observation and some short-term swing bed patients. Common drips used include Heparin and Levophed. There is a charge nurse on each shift, and that charge nurse does take an assignment. Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters are available on each shift in Medsurg with a ratio of 1:8. RNs in the ER are required to read and interpret tele monitor strips. Shifts are from 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700. Self/team scheduling is allowed. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday requirements involve working every third holiday. Staff may float between ER, Medsurg, and swing bed as needed. Attributes that help make a nurse successful in this role include teamwork, communication, flexibility, the ability to work under pressure, and adaptability. The radius rule is 50 miles. All requests for time off must be provided upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract. Additional requests for time off will not be approved after submission. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is MEDITECH. BSN is not required. This is an acute care setting. Nights plus every other weekend plus every third holiday are required.
