Parts Inspector/Finish Repair Tech (Nights)

Position Overview Responsible for constructing and repairing fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts. This role involves using a variety of tools and materials to ensure high-quality finishes and structural integrity. Grade 4 – Tech I 5.2 – Tech II (must pass skills test) Tech I Responsibilities Build and repair fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts using hand tools and specialty equipment. Inspect parts and understand fiberglass finishes or basic use of abrasives. Handle and apply solvents, paints, pastes, putty, and wax, ensuring proper disposal. Follow specific job instructions and provide verbal and/or written status updates. Recognize and protect boat components while performing finishing duties. Tech II Responsibilities Advanced knowledge and proficiency in all Tech I duties. Complete an internal skills test covering gel coat mixture calculations and repair methodologies for defects such as blemishes, pits, pinholes, cracks, and other surface defects. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED. 2-3 years of boat building experience preferred. Working knowledge of hand tools. Ability to read and understand print and production schedules. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work with suspended loads. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Adaptability to changing requirements in a positive and proactive way. Excellent attention to detail for identifying defects and inconsistencies. Preferred Qualifications Experience in quality control or inspection in manufacturing or marine environment. Advanced proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM). Proven ability to identify and resolve quality issues. Strong documentation skills and record keeping. Working Conditions Maintain cleanliness and safety compliance, including PPE use and safety policy adherence. Report all hazards immediately to supervisor. Understand basic terminology such as OSHA, DEP, and related agencies. Wear required personal protective equipment when designated (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection). Pay Range Tech I: $21.42 to $24.05 per hour. Tech II: $23.69 to $26.52 per hour. Pay determined by job‑related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, and location.
