Job Details Job Location: Bronx, NY 10453, Salary Range: $25.06 - $26.26 Hourly Job Summary The Medical Assistant (MA) at Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC) provides patient-centered clinical and administrative support within a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting. The MA plays a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and culturally competent care across the lifespan under the supervision of licensed clinical staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Physician Assistants (PAs)and Physicians. This position supports ambulatory care delivery by assisting with patient flow, clinical procedures, preventive care services, chronic disease management support, and care coordination activities. The MA also contributes to population health initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and adherence to all applicable clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Intake & Clinical Support Prepares patients for visits by obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, weight, BMI, and medical history. Assists with patient intake, screening tools, and health questionnaires, including pain, fall risk, and social determinants of health, and any other required clinical screenings. Prepares examination rooms, ensures availability of supplies, and maintains cleanliness and infection control standards. Assists providers and nursing staff during examinations, procedures, and treatments. Performs basic clinical tasks as delegated and within scope of practice. Procedures & Preventive Care Performs point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose, urine dipstick, rapid tests) as directed. Assists with specimen collection and other in-office procedures as assigned. Observes patients for immediate reactions following procedures and reports concerning concerns to clinical staff. Patient Flow & Care Coordination Support Supports efficient patient flow throughout the clinic, including rooming and discharge processes. Assists in scheduling follow‑up appointments, referrals, and diagnostic testing. Reinforces patient instructions provided by clinical staff regarding medications, care plans, and preventive services. Supports care gap closure initiatives by assisting with outreach and follow‑up activities. Communicates patient needs and observations to nursing and provider teams to support continuity of care. Administrative & Documentation Support Accurately documents clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner. Assists with updating patient records and required reporting systems. Supports prior authorizations, referral processing, and medical record requests as directed. Manages and monitors clinical supplies, including ordering, stocking, inventory tracking, and ensuring availability of supplies and equipment as needed. Maintains compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, HRSA, DOH, and organizational policies and procedures. Team Collaboration & Professional Practice Works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other care team members in a team-based care model. Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and staff. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and required training. Demonstrates cultural competence, empathy, and respect in all patient interactions. Supports a safe, organized, and efficient clinical environment. General Duties Maintains patient safety and adheres to infection control and safety standards at all times. Utilizes clinical and administrative technology systems effectively. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and reliability in daily work. Performs other related duties as assigned to support patient care, clinic operations, and public health initiatives, including during emergency situations. Qualifications: JOB SPECIFICATIONS 1 EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program preferred. 2.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certification preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within the designated timeframe. 3.EXPERIENCES: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office, outpatient clinic, or similar healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of basic clinical procedures, patient intake processes, and medical terminology. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) is strongly preferred. Familiarity with FQHC, PCMH, or community health settings is a plus. 4.INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Present self in professional manner 5.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to comprehend routine activities and problem-solve with assistance form supervisor 6.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak, read and comprehend English. 7.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, fractions and decimals 8.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, talks and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
