Other Conditions: Full-time, tenure track, annually renewable depending on performance, departmental needs and/or funding availability. To begin approximately March 2027, subject to position clearance and availability of funds. First review begins August 19, 2026, with continuous recruitment until filled. This position may also be funded by extramural funds.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Participates in the development of principles and processes to guide the strengthening of academic programs in the department of medicine with respect to Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME) program evaluation, and similar academic endeavors within John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) clinical affiliates.
2. Assumes potential leadership roles as requested, which may include serving as Department Chair for Medicine and in a leadership role in an affiliated faculty practice medical group.
3. Participate in strategic planning and implementation at the school level (e.g, relevant to the development of the department of medicine and JABSOM) and collaborate with the Queen's University Medical Group (QUMG), Queen's Health Systems (QHS), Hawai'i Pacific Health (HPH), Hawai'i Pacific Health Medical Group (HPHMG), and other JABSOM clinical affiliates, providing a unique academic clinical faculty and clinician scientist perspective to align clinical operations with the academic mission.
4. Participates in developing clinical research and service programs that include JABSOM learners and faculty and are designed to strengthen the innovative delivery of health care within JABSOM clinical affiliates, with a focus on the disciplines of medicine.
5. Assists with the maintenance of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for medicine and subspecialty experiences and programs based at all JABSOM clinical affiliates with such experiences.
6. Oversees clinical quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and faculty evaluations.
7. Serve as principal investigator for clinical services grant/contract proposals.
8. Serve as mentor for students, residents, fellows, and faculty, and promote a strong clinical faculty development program based on H-series promotion goals.
9. Promotes ongoing professional growth and development by participating in continuing medical education, leadership training, professional conferences, and other learning opportunities relevant to the practice of medicine and academic healthcare leadership.
10. Conduct and publish research in areas affecting human health, patient care, or methods and techniques of medical education.
11. Build a vigorous departmental research program with extramural funding.
12. Engage in continuous learning through literature reviews, active participation in in-service meetings and workshops, and system-wide educational initiatives to stay current with academic best practices.
13. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and vision of the University of Hawai'i and JABSOM, in close coordination with the missions of JABSOM's clinical affiliates.
14. Perform related work as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

1. MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
2. Minimum of four years in the rank of Associate Professor, or ten years of other health care experience, or a total of ten years of teaching in the rank of Associate Professor and other health care experience, or one year in the rank of Professor at another health care school of recognized standing.
3. Current Board certification in Internal Medicine with ongoing Maintenance of Certification, and any relevant subspecialty boards.
4. Eligible for or currently holds an unrestricted Hawai'i Medical License.
5. Evidence of excellence in teaching, national or international recognition as a scholar, and effective medical education and/or clinical program administration.
6. Substantial track record of investigation and scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals of relevant specialty.
7. Demonstrated capacity for leadership in an academic Internal Medicine department.
8. Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.
9. Excellent communication and team-building skills

Desirable Qualifications

1. Experience working in a multicultural environment, including understanding the unique cultural aspects of Hawaii's population.
2. Documented participation in the scholarly and academic and/or clinical affairs of the medical school, university, professional organizations, and/or hospitals.
3. Recognition as an outstanding academician, scholar, or clinician with a national and/or international reputation.
4. Successful acquisition of funding for clinical trials, clinical services, or educational training grants and/or contracts.
5. Demonstrated ability to lead a research/scholarship group or Center, provide research/scholarship training for junior faculty and/or graduate students, and/or lead research studies involving clinical trials, community-based research, quality improvement projects, or clinical services and intervention.
6. Senior departmental or division leadership in a GME program, clinical division, service line, clinical program, or academic department, with evidence of mentoring faculty.
7. Managerial experience in healthcare administration, medical management, or equivalent.
8. Experience in strategic planning leading to division or departmental growth
