NextgenID

FIELD SYSTEMS ENGINEER – HARDWARE & NETWORKING

Internal Title: Client Solutions Engineer II

THE ROLE

NextgenID is a growing identity infrastructure company building security-critical systems that federal agencies and major enterprises rely on to verify and manage identity. As we expand our operations, we're looking for a hands-on Field Systems Engineer (Client Solutions Engineer II) to deploy, maintain, and support our biometric identity verification kiosks at client sites.

This is a field-based technical role that combines hardware installation, system configuration, network troubleshooting, and direct client support. You'll manage deployments from initial site readiness through installation, testing, and ongoing maintenance, working closely with our engineering, operations, and account management teams to ensure reliable performance.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems in the field, can troubleshoot hardware and software issues under real-world conditions, and is comfortable working directly with clients. You'll serve as the face of NextgenID during deployments, helping bring mission-critical identity technology into production and supporting our growing network of federal and enterprise customers.

This position reports to the Client Solutions Team Lead and offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in biometrics, identity verification, and enterprise security infrastructure.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

• Execute end-to-end deployment of biometric identity kiosks at federal and enterprise client sites — from site survey and pre-staging through installation, configuration, and acceptance testing

• Perform scheduled and emergency on-site maintenance, break/fix, and hardware replacement to meet SLA commitments across the deployed kiosk fleet

• Configure and validate kiosk software, biometric capture modules, network connectivity, and integration with client IAM/ICAM systems

• Conduct site readiness assessments including power, network, physical security, and environmental requirements prior to deployment

• Serve as the on-site technical point of contact during deployment windows, coordinating with client IT, facilities, and security teams

• Document deployment configurations, maintenance activities, and incident reports in the ticketing system with zero tolerance for incomplete records

• Escalate complex software or integration issues to engineering with clear diagnostic data and reproduction steps

• Support client training on kiosk operation, basic troubleshooting, and identity enrollment workflows

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY DONE

• Deployed, maintained, or supported hardware systems in a client-facing production environment — not just lab or staging work

• Troubleshot hardware and software integration issues on-site under time pressure, with the client watching

• Worked with network infrastructure: TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPN configurations in enterprise or government environments

• Configured and supported Windows and/or Linux-based systems in a field deployment context

• Maintained accurate service records, asset tracking, and incident documentation without being chased

• Communicated technical status and next steps to non-technical client stakeholders clearly and professionally

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• 2–5 years of experience in field engineering, technical deployment, client solutions, or IT support in a client-facing role

• Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining hardware systems — kiosks, terminals, networking equipment, or similar endpoint devices

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewall rules, and enterprise network topologies

• Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems in a field or production support context

• Strong written and verbal communication — you can brief a client site manager and write a deployment report that engineering can act on

• Willingness to travel to client sites in the DMV area and occasionally nationwide (estimated 40–60% travel)

• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs (kiosk hardware)

Preferred:

• Experience with biometric systems, identity verification platforms, PIV/CAC credentialing, or ICAM infrastructure

• Familiarity with federal IT environments, security protocols, and physical access requirements (HSPD-12, FIPS 201)

• CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent certifications

• Experience supporting kiosk or self-service terminal deployments in government or enterprise settings

• Clearance eligibility required; active clearance preferred

WHY NEXTGENID

This is not a help desk role and it is not a body shop deployment job. You will be deploying identity infrastructure that federal agencies and major enterprises depend on for security-critical operations. Every kiosk you bring online directly expands NextgenID’s operational footprint and revenue capacity. You will develop deep expertise in biometric identity systems, work directly with the engineers who build the platform, and see the impact of your work in production every day. If you want to grow into a CSE III, Solutions Architect, or field leadership track, this is the right starting point.

COMPENSATION

Compensation: Base salary range: $75,000–$120,000 (Client Solutions Engineer II, L2 band). ESOP eligibility: optional at this level, based on performance and tenure. No variable/commission component — this is a salaried technical role. Relocation assistance is not available; candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to the Fairfax, VA area.
