Associate, Strategic Communications

Breakwater Strategy, a strategic insights and communications agency, is seeking an organized and detail-oriented junior professional to join a growing team of strategic communications advisors based in Washington, D.C. Breakwater advises companies, brands, coalitions, and non-profits on how to navigate change, crises, and complexities.

The position combines client-facing work with support for one of the firm’s Partners. It’s a unique opportunity to both work for a variety of diverse clients while also working closely with a senior executive at the firm. As we grow, the opportunities for junior employees are vast. Recent graduates who have 1-2 years of relevant internship experience are best suited for this position at Breakwater. We’re open to skilled communicators and strategic thinkers of all educational tracks, and value diversity; a degree or internship in communications isn’t a prerequisite for this entry-level role.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and/or compile daily press clips for clients
• Assist client teams in prep for meetings/pitches
• Basic writing and research tasks (including emails, meeting agendas, messaging documents, press materials, client documents, owned media content, etc.)
• Build and maintain press lists
• Pitch a wide variety of media contactsPrepare briefing documents, talking points, etc.
• Administrative support for client teams and staff, including scheduling, preparing and submitting expense reports, booking travel, and filtering internal and external requests

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus 1-2 years of relevant internship/work experience
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Strong writing and research skills

District of Columbia Salary Range

$65,000—$68,000 USD
