As the Billing Claims Administrator with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH), you will oversee, coordinate, and analyze daily billing operations to ensure the accurate and timely processing of claims, payments, and account reconciliations. In this role, you will serve as the subject-matter expert on billing procedures, act as a liaison between the billing company and MCDPH, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations. You will also mentor and support staff with billing questions to better serve the residents of Maricopa County. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as this role partners closely with providers and administrative teams to support documentation, training, and workflow efficiency, ultimately providing better outcomes for the residents of Maricopa County. Please note that the primary work location for this role is in-person at the Roosevelt Clinic ( 1645 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix, AZ 85006 ). Travel to the Public Health Administration Building ( 4041 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85012 ) may be required. Other Requirements Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire Employee must have reliable transportation, may have to travel to another location if coverage is needed Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test We Also Value One or more years of current claims processing experience Strong grasp of medical terminology and knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding Bilingual skills in English/Spanish Job Contributions Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for billing issues, including developing a relationship with vendors related to billing issues Analyze and provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure staff effectiveness and development Develop and maintain billing policies, procedures, and documentation standards, including eCW billing configuration roles, fee schedules, CPT codes, modifiers, templates, claim scrubbing, and automated rule engines. Conduct and provide analysis along with recommendations to department leadership Develop and maintain reports, metrics, and participate in special projects as needed to support this activity for the department and its leadership Audit billing records for accuracy and identify trends or areas needing process improvement Analyze, manage, and monitor claim denials, rejections, and adjustments; ensure timely follow-up and resolution Collaborate with compliance, finance, and program managers to address billing discrepancies and implement corrective actions. The program's budget must be kept in mind, considering language line, taxi scheduling, labs, etc. Manage patient and payer billing inquiries, ensuring excellent customer service and accurate communication. This will require a review of sensitive EOBs that are typically sent for billed services Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing codes (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10) and reimbursement procedures Ensure billing practices align with federal and state regulations, HIPAA requirements, and organizational policies Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting billing and reimbursement processes Working Conditions Work is performed indoors in a high-volume, clinical office setting while interacting with a diverse population and working in a team environment This role is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency Selection Procedure Consideration will only be given to candidates who submit online applications Candidates will be contacted primarily through email and their Workday online application profile Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive Maricopa County is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants.
