MUSC is a tertiary care hospital with an integrated children’s hospital, active transplantation, a large cancer center, and an adult and pediatric Level I trauma center. Our department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding.
We are seeking
- An academically oriented candidate with 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience; current fellow/recent graduates will be considered
- A candidate with a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree, certified by the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology (ABMLI) / Diplomate in Medical Laboratory Immunology (DMLI), or the American Board of Pathology, or the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) with an immunology focus, as applicable
- Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina if applicable
- Additional formal training, certification, and/or expertise in clinical chemistry or other related clinical pathology laboratory science (e.g. toxicology, clinical mass spectrometry, point of care, molecular immunology, HLA testing, flow cytometry) preferred
- Active participation in the oversight of laboratory testing quality
- Lead / participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new laboratory assays and diagnostic approaches, including LDTs and emerging technologies
- Proficiency and participation in the interpretation of routine clinical immunology testing (SPEP, UPEP, IFE, IT, Hgb variants)
- Collaboration with quality and technical staff to monitor service performance and quality and facilitate timely interventions on any issues affecting operations
- Experience in fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers and resource to technologists at the bench and promoting appropriate utilization of specialized immunologic testing
- Participation in clinical and/or translational research endeavors
- Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and collaborative approach to patient care
- Active participation in teaching of medical students and training of pathology residents and fellows
- Active participation in the ComACC-accredited clinical chemistry fellowship training program
- Active participation in the academic mission of the Department

- Collaborative team composed of >60 faculty
- High quality training programs with 22 residents and 10-12 fellows, including a ComACC-accredited clinical chemistry fellowship
- CAP, AABB, ASHI, and FACT certifications and accreditations
- You will collaboratively support the Directors of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory and Diagnostic Immunology Laboratory in terms of teaching activities, new assay validation and verification studies, accreditation activities, and participation in applicable research and/or industry grants.
