This is a mostly remote role - the Manager is onsite in Tulsa roughly once a week, and you'll have the flexibility to work remotely from Tulsa, OK, or Tempe/Phoenix, AZ. That flexibility comes with real accountability: you'll own the environment day to day, with the Manager acting as a secondary DBA and organizational point of contact rather than someone directing your daily work.This is a great fit for someone who wants genuine technical ownership without a lot of management overhead - you're trusted to run the environment, make the calls, and be the expert in the room.Why This Role Stands OutReal autonomy, real impact. You'll get real ramp-up time to learn the system before being expected to drive major changes.What You'll OwnProduction Database AdministrationServe as the primary Oracle DBA for a production RAC environment with Data Guard standbyMonitor and tune performance using OEM, AWR, ASH, and ADDMManage storage, capacity planning, and tablespace healthOwn the patching and version management scheduleOwn incident response - diagnose root cause and implement durable fixes, not band-aidsManage backup/recovery procedures alongside the infrastructure teamPerformance & OptimizationResolve SQL plan instability using SPM baselines and SQL ProfilesDesign indexing strategies based on real application usage patternsTune connection pools, RAC-specific configuration, and parallel executionDiagnose and remediate locking, contention, and wait event issuesSecurity & StandardsManage Oracle accounts, roles, profiles, and least-privilege service accountsEnforce session controls, password policies, and audit configurationPartner with developers on stored procedure design and code reviewBuild out DBA documentation, runbooks, and operational standardsCollaborationWork with application, dev, and infrastructure teamsCoordinate with the external infrastructure vendor on migration workWeigh in on architecture decisions and project planningWhat We're Looking ForMust-Haves5+ years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience in production environmentsProven, hands-on production experience with Oracle RAC (specifically a 2-node cluster) and Data Guard - this is a core requirement, not a nice-to-haveStrong Oracle 19c (or comparable recent version) administration expertiseStrong SQL and PL/SQL skills - able to read and write production code, not just execute scriptsExperience with Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWR, ASH, ADDM, and execution plan analysisDemonstrated ability to work independently and self-manage - this role has minimal day-to-day oversight, so a self-starter mindset is essentialComfortable operating with broad technical ownership on a small, lean teamStrongly PreferredOracle patching and version upgrade planning/executionIndex lifecycle management, partitioning, and large table reorganizationSQL Plan Management (SPM) and SQL ProfilesConnection pool administration (DRCP or shared server)Lower environment refresh design/automationOracle APEX and/or ORDS administrationExperience with infrastructure or storage migrationsStrong documentation and runbook-writing habitsNice to HaveOCP certification or equivalentBackground in financial services or transaction-processing environmentsYou're a technician at heart - happiest diagnosing, fixing, or building rather than sitting in meetings talking about it.
