Cafeteria Associate - PRN

Job Summary

The Café Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while accurately processing customer transactions in a fast-paced food service environment. This position supports daily café operations by handling cash and electronic payments, maintaining a clean and organized checkout area, stocking supplies, and assisting with various food service functions as needed. The Café Cashier promotes a positive customer experience through friendly interactions, attention to detail, and adherence to food safety, sanitation, and operational standards.

Essential Functions

• Processes customer transactions accurately and efficiently using cash registers and point-of-sale systems.

• Handles cash, credit card, and electronic payment transactions while maintaining accurate records and balancing assigned cash drawers.

• Issues receipts and ensures proper transaction documentation.

• Provides exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving concerns in a professional and courteous manner.

• Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

• Assists with stocking food, beverages, supplies, and merchandise throughout café and service areas.

• Supports daily café operations through food preparation, beverage service, and customer service activities as assigned.

• Assists with patient meal production, tray assembly, meal delivery, and other Food and Nutrition Services activities as needed.

• Performs dishwashing and sanitation duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

• Monitors inventory levels and communicates supply needs to leadership.

• Maintains compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation standards, infection prevention practices, and departmental policies.

• Works collaboratively with team members to support efficient food service operations and customer satisfaction.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of retail, food service, and customer service operations.

• Ability to make decisions, prioritize work, and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, patients, visitors, and team members.

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand conversational English.

• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

• Ability to operate point-of-sale systems, cash registers, and related technology.

• Knowledge of cash handling and basic financial transaction procedures.

• Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while processing transactions.

• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Field of Study

• N/A

Work Experience

• One year of prior food service, retail, hospitality, cashiering, or customer service experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• ServSafe Certification preferred.
