Maintenance Helper

The Position

This is a continuous filing exam. The next filing cut-offs are at 5:00 pm on: 12/12/25, 2/6/26, 3/3/26, *4/1/26, 5/1/26, 6/26/26, 8/21/26. Under close supervision, performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in connection with the maintenance of County parks, roads, utility plants, pipelines, drainage ditches, and other facilities. Positions in this classification are temporary and part-time only. It is intended to facilitate the accomplishment of seasonal workload requirements. Employees in this classification are given close supervision and do not perform the more skilled assignments.

Employment Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class 3 (now Class C) or higher. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and abide by rules and regulations; learn and perform maintenance assignments; read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance. General Qualifications Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be 18 years of age prior to appointment because of the hazards of the job, as defined by the Fair Labor Standard Act. Physical Abilities: In some positions incumbents will be required to perform heavy manual labor, which may include such tasks as digging ditches, lifting and carrying of materials such as cement bags, frequent walking and/or standing, and lifting, carrying or throwing shovelsfull of paving material. Working Conditions: Incumbents in this class are required to work out of doors in all kinds of weather and under dusty, dirty as well as hazardous conditions, and are subject to emergency or on-call work at other than normal duty hours. Probationary Period The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination. This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.

All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
