Aquatics Coordinator (3587)

The Aquatics Coordinator assists the Aquatics Director in ensuring safety and quality program delivery. The Aquatics Coordinator will ensure appropriate staffing and instructor/program ratios are observed. Other responsibilities include assisting the Aquatics Director in staff training and administrative duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinates, oversees, and organizes aquatic programs. Provides staff with weekly rosters for enrollment and program‑participant verification. Completes administrative assignments as assigned by the Aquatics Director. Assists the Aquatics Director or Management in developing shift schedules; monitors Aquatics Department timesheets as directed. While on duty as a lifeguard, provides continuous, uninterrupted scanning of the pool and aquatic area. Reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required. Follows and ensures Minimum Standards of Safety for Aquatic Activities 7.301; enforces safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Identifies ways to improve safety standards. Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff. Monitors the aquatic area for hazardous or unsafe conditions; reports and takes appropriate action. Uses problem‑solving skills to make quick decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and recognize potential danger or injury. Successfully completes and passes periodic aquatic safety assessments. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management. Demonstrates the Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff. Performs all duties assigned by the supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Tread water for 2 minutes (legs only). Swim 250 yards of front crawl. Swim 50 yards of each of the following: Front crawl with the head up Breaststroke Breaststroke with the head up Elementary backstroke kick with hands on the chest Perform a feet‑first surface dive in 8‑10 feet of water (if facility accommodates); then swim underwater for 15 feet. Sprint approximately 60 feet starting from the shallow end, then perform an arm‑over‑arm surface dive in 8‑10 feet (if facility accommodates). Pick up an object (dive ring) from the bottom, surface, tread water with legs only for at least one minute, then replace the object at the bottom. Swim the remaining length to the end of the pool and hoist yourself out of the water. Begin CPR on an adult manikin for 2 minutes immediately; stand and follow instructor directions. Sit for extended periods in an elevated chair; remain alert, focused, and vigilant even under high heat and humidity. Move safely to various locations, including entering/exiting an elevated chair while scanning the area. Maintain adequate hearing to distinguish distress signals amid background noise. Continuously scan all areas with clear vision. Perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue. Communicate immediately when responding to an incident or emergency; speak verbally, project voice across distances, and give/receive directions. Perform all rescue, resuscitation, and survival skills; act swiftly even if uncertain. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Current YMCA Lifeguarding, American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid certifications and Emergency Oxygen Administration. Certified American Red Cross Lifeguards must obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 90 days of hire. 2‑3 years of lifeguard experience (preferred). Ability to maintain required certification; demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
