Principal PsychiatristThis opportunity is with a well-established behavioral health and psychiatric care organization serving the State of Connecticut. The organization provides comprehensive psychiatric, behavioral health, addiction medicine, and forensic mental health services across inpatient facilities, correctional settings, and multidisciplinary treatment programs.Position SummaryThe organization is seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to join its behavioral health team as a Principal Psychiatrist in a full-time, 40-hour position. This advanced clinical leadership role combines direct patient care responsibilities with administrative, supervisory, and multidisciplinary team oversight. The psychiatrist will provide psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, medication management, clinical supervision, and collaboration across behavioral health programs while supporting quality initiatives and operational excellence. The position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative psychiatric environment serving patients with complex mental health and substance use disorders.Essential ResponsibilitiesProvide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with behavioral health and substance use disordersDevelop and manage individualized treatment plans, including medication management and psychotherapy interventionsProvide direct patient care, facility coverage, and on-call psychiatric support as scheduledConduct patient rounds and collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams regarding care planning and discharge coordinationReview treatment plans, medical records, and clinical documentation to ensure compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirementsSupervise and mentor psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, therapists, social workers, nursing staff, and other interdisciplinary team members as neededParticipate in case conferences, grand rounds, staff education, and clinical training initiativesPerform advanced psychiatric risk assessments and consult on complex behavioral health casesParticipate in quality assurance, utilization review, and performance improvement initiativesAssist with clinical program development, policy discussions, and operational planningAttend court hearings and provide clinical testimony when requiredMaintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR systemQualificationsEducation: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical schoolBoard Status: Board-Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or Board-Certified in Adult or Child & Adolescent PsychiatryLicensure: Active or eligible Connecticut medical licenseExperience: Experience treating patients with psychiatric illnesses and substance use disorders preferredClinical Skills: Strong expertise in psychiatric assessment, medication management, psychotherapy, and interdisciplinary collaborationLeadership Skills: Ability to supervise, mentor, and support multidisciplinary clinical teamsAdditional Requirements: Must maintain eligibility for participation in federal healthcare programsPreferred Qualifications: Additional expertise in areas such as addiction medicine, geriatrics, forensic psychiatry, ABI/TBI, or related behavioral health specialties is highly valuedCompensation & Work EnvironmentHighly competitive compensation package based on experience and qualificationsFull-time, stable behavioral health leadership opportunityCollaborative multidisciplinary psychiatric care environmentOpportunity to work with complex and clinically diverse patient populationsStrong administrative and operational support structureProfessional growth opportunities through leadership, education, and quality initiativesMeaningful opportunity to impact behavioral health outcomes within a respected healthcare systemThank you, and I look forward to connecting soon!
