About the Position

Job Title: RN II Labor & Delivery - New to Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: Not specified Experience: One year of acute care experience required License: Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor required within 90 days of hire - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from an approved vendor required within 60 days of hire - Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required within 90 days of hire - Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) required Must-Have: - Must be willing and able to cross train for OB/GYN patients Description: Provides nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Handles emergency situations and circulating for C-Sections. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel according to their scope of practice. Performs physical and psychosocial assessments of patients, demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age and cultural differences. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies. Competently institutes and evaluates fetal monitoring recordings. Assesses fetal and maternal well-being and recognizes and manages abnormalities. Effectively manages pain control in laboring patients and supports alternative pain control methods when appropriate. Aids with epidural catheter placement and monitors patient status during and after medication administration. Educates patients and families throughout the perinatal and postpartum periods using suitable methods for age, condition, culture, and learning readiness. Completes accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Carries out other job-related duties as assigned.
