Assistant Director of Admissions for Grades 6-8

Job Location: Bethesda, MD 20817. Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000. Job Category: Admissions. Position Overview The Assistant Director of Admissions for Grades 6-8 will report directly to the Director of Admissions as an integral member of the enrollment management team. This role is highly relational and operational. The Assistant Director serves as a visible and welcoming presence for prospective families and community partners, representing the mission and spirit of Holton-Arms with authenticity, warmth, and professionalism. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate complex events, and sustain systems that support a seamless admissions process. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to move fluidly between structured planning and responsive engagement, ensuring every interaction reflects care, clarity, and excellence of the Holton-Arms community. Key Responsibilities Cultivate positive relationships with prospective families, current families, area schools, and community partners across Maryland, DC, and Virginia to build interest in Holton's enduring value. Support prospective families for grades 6-8 from initial inquiry through complete enrollment process. Assist with planning and retrospectives for admissions/enrollment operations that occur on- and off-campus, including open houses, yield events, school tours, shadow days, and transition/welcome events for new families. Serve as an active member of the school's admission committee for applicant review, evaluation, and placement. In partnership with Director of Admissions, review student and parent ambassador programs, train tour guides, and help design engaging campus visit experiences. Collaborate with administrative team, faculty, and staff to plan events such as new student orientation, communications pertaining to admissions, transitions, and enrollment. Co-create and implement proactive, responsive, operationally-driven enrollment strategies aligned with the school's mission and agreed-upon guidelines to achieve optimal enrollment goals for both large groups and individual constituents. Collaborate with all members of the school to develop and refine admissions policies and practices in a responsive, adaptive, and mission-driven way. Maintain admissions databases, track outreach and event effectiveness, and generate reports to inform enrollment strategy. Perform other responsibilities as deemed necessary by Director of Admissions. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree required. At least 3 years of experience in admissions, preferably in an independent school or education setting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and complex logistics within a fast-paced environment while sustaining a high level of responsiveness, clarity, and professionalism. Experience with admissions databases and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace. Exceptional interpersonal skills, with ability to engage authentically and confidently with a wide range of constituents in both planned and unscripted settings; capacity to represent the school with warmth, presence, and sound judgment in all interactions, serving as ambassador for Holton-Arms mission. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally. Upholds strict confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information. Bilingual or multilingual proficiency is a plus. Coaching experience is desired. Salary and Benefits The average salary range is $75,000 to $90,000, with exact salary determined based on education and experience.
