VDC Manager

Position Summary

The VDC Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all Virtual Design and Coordination (VDC) operations. This position provides strategic and technical leadership to the VDC team, ensuring projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards, fabrication requirements, and field installation needs.

The VDC Manager will oversee projects from initial kickoff through coordination, modeling, deliverable release, and as-built documentation while developing team capabilities, improving processes, and supporting collaboration across Preconstruction, Project Management, Estimating, Fabrication, and Field Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop VDC Team Leads, modelers, and technical staff.

• Plan, organize, staff, and control VDC operations to meet organizational goals.

• Conduct employee performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.

• Manage VDC workload, staffing, priorities, schedules, and project performance.

• Oversee VDC activities from project kickoff through final coordination and deliverable release.

• Establish and enforce modeling standards, workflows, quality-control procedures, and best practices.

• Lead high-level coordination efforts, clash detection, clash resolution, and constructability reviews.

• Ensure VDC models and deliverables align with fabrication standards and field installation requirements.

• Support field operations with accurate drawings, layout information, model updates, and technical coordination.

• Review and approve major VDC deliverables, including shop drawings and as-built strategies.

• Collaborate closely with Project Management, Estimating, Fabrication, Preconstruction, and Field Operations.

• Identify opportunities to improve VDC workflows, technology, productivity, and project delivery.

• Evaluate and implement new VDC technologies and processes to support department growth.

• Assist with departmental financial management and ERP-related activities.

• Perform administrative and operational duties supporting the broader Preconstruction organization.

• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, company policies, and safety requirements.

• Participate in required training and professional development activities.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 10+ years of applicable VDC experience, or a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.

• 5+ years of VDC leadership or management experience preferred.

• Advanced knowledge of VDC modeling, coordination, and project delivery.

• Strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing system coordination, fabrication, and installation.

• Proven experience managing VDC teams and leading complex coordination efforts.

• Proficiency with Revit, Navisworks, and other VDC/BIM technologies.

• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and implementing organizational or process improvements.

• Strong mentoring, coaching, and employee-development skills.

• Familiarity with departmental financial management and ERP systems.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work extended periods sitting and using computers, telephones, and other office equipment.

• May occasionally require light lifting and carrying of files, materials, and documentation.

• Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and elbow movements associated with computer and office work.

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in an office or jobsite office environment with occasional interaction with field operations. The role may require a flexible schedule, periodic overtime, and overnight travel based on project and business needs.
