Job Description
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

Join a dedicated team in a reputable children's hospital with a high-level NICU. We are seeking a skilled Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional care for critically ill neonates as part of a dynamic healthcare team.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Level III-IV NICU.
• Current BLS and NRP certifications.
• Valid Washington state nursing license.

Required Skills

• Competence in respiratory support for vents (required).
• Familiarity with trachs (highly preferred, not required).
• Experience with g-tubes, NG/OG, and NCPAP.
• Skilled in UAC/UVC management and PICC line care.
• Proficient in medication administration and care planning.
• Experience facilitating discharges to home.
• Positive attitude and friendly demeanor are essential.

Patient Types and Common Diagnoses

The NICU team cares for patients who are:

• Premature neonates down to 22 weeks gestation.
• Diagnosed with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS).
• High-risk deliveries and patients.
• Feeders and growers.
• Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).

Preferred experience includes surgical patients and those with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE).

Work Environment

You will be working in a 152-bed children's hospital with a Level IV NICU that has 70 NICU beds, typically serving a census of around 50 patients. The NICU offers private rooms with overflow into a Level II Nursery for feeders and growers. The unit is part of a pediatric hospital that connects with an adult hospital, including a high-risk labor and delivery department.

Additional Information

• Floating to MedSurg or PICU may be required for patients aged 1 and under or as needed.
• Weekend rotation occurs every other weekend, with occasional back-to-back weekends (rare).
• Shift options include day (0700-1930) and night (1900-0730).
• Scrub colors are flexible; any color is acceptable.
• Block scheduling may be available, but it is not guaranteed.
