RiverCity Industries is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal CAD Designer/Draftsman to join our North Campus team in San Antonio, Texas. This position is responsible for converting customer drawings, models, specifications, and physical components into accurate, production-ready CAD files.

The ideal candidate will possess strong SolidWorks proficiency, practical experience with formed sheet metal fabrication, and the ability to create precise 2D drawings and 3D parametric models that reflect customer requirements, design intent, and manufacturing capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Convert customer drawings, models, specifications, and physical components into accurate, production-ready CAD files.

• Create and revise detailed 2D drawings and 3D parametric models using SolidWorks.

• Develop sheet metal parts, flat patterns, formed components, tubing, fabricated assemblies, and other complex shapes.

• Apply proper design intent, dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, and manufacturing considerations.

• Review customer-supplied drawings and files for completeness, accuracy, and manufacturability.

• Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear information and communicate concerns before releasing files to production.

• Perform reverse engineering using physical samples, measurements, customer drawings, or existing components.

• Prepare drawings and models to support sheet metal fabrication, machining, forming, welding, and related manufacturing processes.

• Coordinate with the Department Lead to resolve technical and manufacturing concerns.

• Maintain accurate file revisions and follow company document-control requirements.

• Verify that completed drawings and models meet customer and production requirements before release.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of professional SolidWorks experience.

• Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks is required.

• Minimum of one year of experience in formed sheet metal fabrication or sheet metal design.

• Working knowledge of 2D drafting, 3D modeling, parametric modeling, design intent, and production drawing preparation.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications.

• Ability to translate customer requirements into accurate, practical, and production-ready manufacturing files.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AutoCAD or another professional CAD platform.

• Experience with machining, sheet metal fabrication, formed fabrication, tubing, welding, or reverse engineering.

• Experience creating flat patterns, formed parts, fabricated assemblies, and complex shapes.

• Understanding of design-for-manufacturing principles and common fabrication limitations.

• Previous experience in a custom manufacturing or job-shop environment.

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position.

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• $25.00–$35.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

• Overtime opportunities may be available after successful completion of the introductory period and must be approved in advance by the Department Lead.
