Job Title Engineering Geologist, Site Cleanup Unit at the State Water Resources Control Board, located at 73-720 Fred Waring Dr., Suite 100, Palm Desert, CA. Salary $6,488.00 - $12,215.00 per Month. New to State candidates hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Job Summary Under close supervision of the Senior Engineering Geologist (Supervisor), the incumbent will provide regulatory oversight of ground and surface water pollutant investigation and mitigation for the Site Cleanup Program (SCP) locations within the California Regional Water Quality Control Board – Colorado River Basin Region (Region 7). Sites include unauthorized releases from storage vessels, transport systems, industrial facilities, and smaller sites such as dry cleaners. Responsibilities Use technical judgment to review regulatory/historical records related to chemical storage/use and environmental site investigations to provide recommendations on the acceptability of technical reports and actions addressing pollutant releases to soil and groundwater. Perform geologic work in all aspects of waste regulation, including soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations of contamination. Evaluate and provide written comments on the conceptual site model (CSM) of sites with unauthorized contaminant releases based on information provided in CSM reports. Use the CSM to delineate unauthorized releases, assess groundwater monitoring networks, evaluate remedial design, and assess the operational effectiveness of soil and groundwater remediation systems. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Desirable Qualifications Experience in investigating and remediating multiple contaminants in soil, soil gas, and groundwater. Experience conducting field investigations and facility inspections. Understanding of contaminant fate and transport, environmental impacts, and governing principles of groundwater basins. Experience reviewing environmental work plans and reports. Project management skills. Good judgment in analyzing water quality issues. Ability to work independently and in cooperation with other technical staff, organize priorities, and meet deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Computer skills (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint). Knowledge of regulations protecting water resources, public health, and the environment.
