Associate Accountant, SG-23 Division of Fiscal Management, Albany, NY Posting Dates: July 10, 2026 – July 19, 2026 Position Information The Associate Accountant will: oversee the accounting for deposits to expenditures from numerous revenue sources using QuickBooks and the Statewide Financial System (SFS); ensure that costs are routinely captured in the appropriate place and take corrective action as necessary; assist the Budget Services Unit with reporting against numerous Federal grants and obtaining recoveries; develop the Federal indirect rate and supporting documentation; assist with Fiscal Management’s response in the event of an internal or external audit; assist with internal controls with the Division, including performing random audits of the purchase, contract, revenue deposit, and federal grant functions; and provide advice and assistance to Fiscal Management staff. This is a permanent, office‑based position located at 10B Airline Drive, Albany, NY. It is a full‑time role (37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday). Telecommuting may be available in accordance with the agency’s Telecommuting Program guidelines. Salary The starting salary for PEF SG-23 is $86,681 per year. The base salary can increase through the New York State Performance Evaluation Program, with potential to reach $109,650 per year. Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent, competitive service in an SG‑23 title appropriate for transfer under Section 70.1 (e.g., Auditor 2, SG‑23; Internal Auditor 2, SG‑23; State Program Examiner 2, SG‑23). Reassignment: current Department of Agriculture and Markets employee with at least one year of permanent service as an Associate Accountant, SG‑23, or reachable on the current eligible list. Non‑Competitive Promotion: three or fewer qualified promotion candidates; candidate may receive a non‑competitive promotion under Section 52.7. Non‑Competitive Promotion Minimum: one year of permanent, contingent‑permanent, or 55 b/c service as a Senior Accountant, G‑18. Provisional Appointment: if no eligible list exists with at least three persons, a provisional appointment may be offered under Section 65; provisional candidates must pass the next civil service examination and achieve a reachable score. Reinstatement Under Rule 5.4: former permanent New York State employees who resigned may be reinstated to former positions without further examination within one year of separation, or after a year if separation exceeded one year upon approval.
