Job Title First Cook – Food Service Supervisor Job Summary This position requires the responsibility for the delivery of services provided by the Food Service department. The First Cook must coordinate and communicate with all food services and other team members, maintain a holistic perspective of care for each resident, and provide the highest quality food preparation, plate presentation and prompt service. The role demands proficiency in various food preparation techniques, serving methods, portion control, and knowledge of nutritional requirements for residents of retirement housing properties. Responsibilities Get to know residents through communication and observation. Participate in resident orientation and daily activities. Explain amenities and department routines to residents. Perform dietary services as outlined in resident handbook and care plans. Recommend and involve in food services programs tailored to resident preferences. Request guidance and training as needed to support resident needs. Resolve food service and care coordination issues promptly with team members. Prepare soups, sauces, salads, desserts, and all menu items per established standards. Break down and clean work area, pots, pans, and equipment. Label and date all food, secure storage areas. Maintain cost-consciousness and manage leftovers and inventory. Assist with breakfast, lunch or dinner preparation and service lines. Follow health department and infection control practices. Assist utility person in duties. Communicate relevant information to Team Leader. Maintain professionalism and customer service orientation. Handle resident concerns with care and professionalism. Perform additional tasks as required by management. Minimum Requirements At least 18 years of age. Continuous interest and knowledge of elderly care. High school diploma or G.E.D. English reading and writing ability. Basic cooking skills, ability to follow directions. Ability to perform cleanup duties and lift up to 75 lbs. Understanding of kitchen equipment operation. Good personal hygiene. Adaptability and willingness to perform various assignments. Current Food Handlers Card. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read and understand English. Follow oral and written instructions. Experience washing dishes and using dish machine (preferred). Judgment in dealing with residents.
