Software Development Manager, Route 53 - Global Resolver

Amazon Web Services (Route 53) is offering a Software Development Manager position in-person in Arlington, VA / Herndon VA USA.In this role, you will be leading a team working on the development of a Tier-1 AWSservice, Route 53 Global Resolver for customers focusing on a globally distributed DNSresolution service. You will be responsible for building and scaling a secure, highly availableAnycast DNS resolver that enables customers to resolve both public and private DNS queriesfrom anywhere while maintaining strong security controls and compliance requirements.We are looking for a proven and motivated Engineering leader to take our services softwaredevelopment team to the next level. As a leader, you will be responsible for significantlyimproving the service, making tough prioritization decisions, iterating and innovating, andthinking through distributed systems problems.You need to be technically deep, be able to communicate clearly, and have the ability to build astrong team that delivers results. The Amazon Web Services business requires creativeengineering and a strong customer focus, and you will work with your team and seniorleadership to develop and launch high quality services. You will manage and lead a team ofengineers to influence our overall strategy and define the team’s roadmap. You will also helpdrive the system architecture, spearhead best practices that enable a quality product, and helpcoach and develop team members. A successful candidate will have an established backgroundin managing and delivering software projects, great communication skills, and a motivation toachieve results in a fast paced environment.Key job responsibilities- Direct management of the software engineering team- Lead the architecture and design, development, deployment and operations for the service- Strategic planning and execution, effectively tracking the progress and management of changing priorities- Be customer-focused and drive the team to build and deliver solutions that improves customer experience- Work closely with leadership and stakeholders to review business plans, progress and outcomes- Work with customers, listening to their requirements and pain-points and drive solutions to address them- Be cost conscious, drive efficiency improvementsAs a trusted leader you will:- Work with product managers to refine customer requirements- Bring innovative ideas to the table every day, in order to find better ways of accomplishing our customer objectives- Set clear and measurable goals for the team and team members- Mentor and promote your team membersBasic qualifications- 5+ years of engineering team management experience- 10+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience- 5+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations- Experience partnering with product or program management teamsPreferred qualification - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineersAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
