Manager Security

The Manager of Security is responsible for leading and overseeing METRO’s security operations, programs, and personnel. This role develops and implements comprehensive security strategies, directs Security and Access Control functions, manages contract and in‑house security teams, and ensures a safe and secure environment for employees, customers, and the communities we serve. The position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and extensive experience in security operations and safety compliance. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction for security staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating performance to maintain efficient operations and achieve departmental objectives. Partner with internal departments to assess organizational security needs and develop effective solutions. Design, implement, and manage security strategies, including Surveillance Security and Access Control programs. Manage the security operations budget, track expenses, and maintain detailed documentation of processes and activities. Collect and analyze security intelligence to proactively identify risks and deploy preventative measures. Coordinate timely responses to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies; prepare and maintain detailed incident reports. Utilize surveillance and access control technologies to support monitoring, auditing, and reporting functions. Stay current with evolving technologies, industry best practices, and advancements in security services and surveillance methods. Ensure compliance with METRO policies, safety standards, security regulations, and all applicable local, state, and federal requirements. Participate in the Safety and Security Certification program and support agency-wide Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives and Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) requirements. Champion a strong organizational safety culture focused on protecting employees, customers, and the public. Provide exceptional internal and external customer service and promote safety awareness to reduce risks and prevent incidents. Perform other related duties as assigned. Salary Range $97,400 – $130,400 Education Requirements High school diploma or GED required Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred Additional training in security, law enforcement, or video surveillance systems desirable Experience Requirements Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in security-related roles At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience Extensive experience in preventing unauthorized activity, managing access control systems, and overseeing security operations Experience serving as a committee member or subject matter expert on projects Strong knowledge of safety regulations, security standards, training methodologies, and Safety Management Systems Experience with FTA’s Safety and Security Certification program preferred Knowledge & Skills Valid State of Texas Driver’s License Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to oversee and monitor field personnel Excellent verbal and written communication abilities Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization and with third‑party contractors Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong general computer skills Knowledge of video surveillance systems, including transit vehicle systems Understanding of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles Transit Safety and Security Professional (TSSP) certification preferred Required National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications: IS‑200, IS‑265, IS‑700, IS‑800 - This is a must have!
