Description
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed. The Sonoma County Junior College District does not offer 'remote only' assignments. Compensation/Benefits
Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment.

  • Salary placement is based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience (depending on discipline) and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be at Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in the AFA Contract
  • Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment.

Sick Leave Accrual: Associate faculty accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis. Additional information can be found in Article 18 of the AFA Contract.

Retirement: SRJC offers CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance and Social Security as Associate Faculty retirement options. Eligibility for each plan is determined based on prior membership status with CalSTRS. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
  • Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.
  • Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

SELECTION PROCESS:
If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected, candidates will be invited to an interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet minimum qualifications in categories A or B AND C, D and E:
A. Graduation from an American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation dental assisting program AND a Bachelor's degree * AND 2 years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a registered dental assistant; OR
B. The equivalent. If you do not possess the minimum qualifications, exactly as listed above, you must file for equivalency. If claiming equivalency, applicants are responsible for documenting all course work, degree programs and related professional experience at the time of application; AND
C. Current licensure in California as a registered dental assistant *; AND
D. Clinical competency and current knowledge in the specific subjects they are teaching and educational theory and methodology consistent with their teaching assignment *; AND
E. Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

* Required by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) - Accreditation Standards for Dental Assisting Education Programs, Standard 3; Bachelor's degree or 120 semester units, all semester or equivalent units must be earned from a regionally accredited postsecondary educational institution.

Required for Dental Hygiene (Laboratory and Clinical Instruction):
Candidates must meet minimum qualifications in categories A, B or C AND D, E, F and G
A. Graduation from an American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation dental hygiene program AND a Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene or related major AND 2 years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a registered dental hygienist; OR

All coursework taken must minimally satisfy general education requirement for an Associate's degree at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Required for Dental Hygiene (Didactic Instruction):
Candidates must meet minimum qualifications in categories A, B or C AND D, E, F and G:

  1. Graduation from an American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation dental hygiene program AND a Bachelor'sin Dental Hygiene or related major AND two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a registered dental hygienist; OR
  2. Graduation from an American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation School of Dentistry AND 2 years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a dentist; OR

Preferred for Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting:
  • Completion of a Master's degree in a related major or in Education from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted Practice Management systems (Eaglesoft) and digital radiology
  • Previous experience as an instructor in an accredited dental hygiene program or dental school (for dental hygiene) or dental assisting program (for dental assisting)
  • Experience and/or willingness to teach online if classes are offered
  • Experience using a distance learning management system (e.g. CANVAS)
Preferred for all areas:
  • Candidates with subject-related work experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of innovative classroom teaching.
  • Experience with educational software relevant to discipline.
  • Online teaching experience at the college level
  • Current industry experience relevant to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
