Sr. Director of Portfolio Strategy, OCIO

NEPC is seeking a Sr. Director of Portfolio Strategy to join its Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) team. This senior investment role is responsible for discretionary portfolio management, asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager implementation, and client-facing investment strategy across both institutional and private wealth clients.

Working closely with NEPC’s Investment Research team, this individual will develop, implement, monitor, and communicate investment decisions for OCIO client portfolios and related investment solutions.

The role will serve as an internal and external investment expert and trusted partner to consultants, clients, prospects, and investment managers across NEPC’s OCIO platform, including Endowments & Foundations, Healthcare organizations, Pension plans, Defined Contribution plans, Taft-Hartley plans, and ultra-high-net-worth/private wealth portfolios.

The OCIO team also managers multi-manager portfolios in both the liquid and less liquid parts of the market, therefore portfolio construction and management experience is preferrable.

Job Summary:

In this highly visible, fast-paced role, the Sr. Director of Portfolio Strategy will oversee discretionary portfolios, including strategic and tactical asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection and implementation, cash management, rebalancing, risk management, and client support. This individual will interact with the OCIO Committee, play an important role in new business opportunities, and lead projects that improve investment decision-making, operational efficiency, and scalability across the OCIO platform.

Job Requirements:

• 10+ years of investment-related experience, with demonstrated expertise in portfolio management, asset allocation, manager research, and discretionary portfolio oversight.
• College degree required; advanced degree and/or CFA® or CAIA® designation, or progress toward these credentials, strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of financial markets, institutional portfolio construction, strategic and tactical asset allocation, investment managers, and risk management.
• Experience with company analysis, fund management, trading, portfolio analysis, and translating investment views into actionable portfolio decisions.
• Excellent analytical, modeling, and data synthesis skills; strong proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, investment databases, and analytic platforms such as FactSet, Bloomberg, eVestment, Backstop, or similar tools.
• Private markets experience in underwriting, selecting and building customized portfolios or funds.
• Comfort with coding, automation, data tools, and practical use of AI to improve portfolio analysis, reporting, research efficiency, and investment decision-making.
• Proven ability to prepare and deliver client presentations, support relationship management, and contribute to business development and new business initiatives.
• Highly organized, detail oriented, intellectually curious, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment; excellent communication, interpersonal, and judgment skills are essential.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is $130,000 - $200,000 per year with an additional annual performance bonus. Individual compensation is based on a variety of factors, including experience, education, certifications, location, responsibilities of the role, internal equity and alignment with market data.
