Diesel Technician I Transdev in Brownsville, TX is seeking a Diesel Technician I to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a Tech I, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles. $1,500 sign‑on bonus available for applicants who already hold a CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements. Compensation: $17.00 – $21.00 per hour. $2.00 / hr increase upon obtaining CDL with endorsements. Key Responsibilities Perform limited repairs with minimal supervision on basic and complex maintenance (e.g., replace light bulbs, fuses, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters, lubricate components). Perform mechanical repairs under minimal supervision including brakes, brake inspections, engine tune‑ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs. Maintain records of all maintenance work, parts and supplies used, and ensure accurate completion of work orders. Order repair parts from designated suppliers. Diagnose vehicle and equipment issues, perform diagnostic tests using computer and manufacturer’s software to determine mechanical defects. Lead preventative maintenance (PMs), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals. Remove, overhaul, and reinstall mechanical components with minimal supervision. Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken. Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required. Lead road calls and emergency services as necessary. Move vehicles safely between job and work area. Repair and maintain all shop equipment. Other responsibilities as requested or required. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred. Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire). State inspection license if required. ASE Certification preferred; expected to have 2 ASE certifications within 6 months of hire. Mechanical aptitude and 2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience. Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards. Valid driver’s license. Comfortable using hand tools. Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job. Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties. Physical Requirements Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; 100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations. Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances on possible sloped ground or uneven surfaces. Push and pull objects; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to items stored at ground level. Withstand traffic areas while performing duties; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
