Medical Assistant
Plays a vital role in healthcare settings by providing both administrative and clinical support to physicians, nurses, and other medical staff. This position prepares patients for examinations, takes vital signs, assists during medical procedures, and performs routine office duties including scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and processing insurance documentation. Medical Assistants ensure efficient clinic operations while delivering high-quality patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to read, write, and understand verbal and written communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Medical Assistant experience
- Medical Assistant certification preferred
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Record and report pertinent patient information, including treatments, observations, test results, and patient complaints, to the appropriate nurse or provider
- Assist physicians with examinations and medical procedures
- Prepare patients for examinations and take vital signs
- Administer injections as authorized by physicians
- Ensure patient safety and assist in maintaining a clean, safe clinical environment
- Maintain responsibility for patient care equipment
- Assist with orientation of new personnel
- Perform duties independently with minimal supervision
- Screen telephone calls and messages for providers and respond when appropriate
- Schedule surgeries, outpatient services, and diagnostic procedures as ordered by physicians
- Process prescription requests, prior authorizations, and referrals
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, reach, bend, kneel, squat, climb stairs, and perform fine and firm grasping
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs frequently; 10–50 lbs occasionally; greater than 50 lbs with assistance
- Push and pull wheeled equipment and carts up to 200 lbs; 200–400 lbs with assistance
- Ability to assist with patient transport using wheelchairs and stretchers
- Exposure to bodily fluids, hazardous materials, and high-risk clinical environments
- Visual acuity, hearing, and communication abilities sufficient for patient care and computer use
