Library Media Specialist

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for Library Media Specialist teaching positions that may become available within our division for the 2026 – 2027 school year.

Assignments and locations to be determined.

Primary responsibilities include maintaining an updated and efficiently functioning library; maintaining and upgrading library materials; supervising the circulation of library materials; instructing students on how to use the library; and performing management duties related to the library.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teacher's License with appropriate endorsement as a Library Media Specialist
• Have extensive knowledge of books and literature
• Apply technology in an educational setting
• Utilize Google Drive for instructional purposes, collaboration, and managing coursework
• Create and maintain an inclusive, supportive learning environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of all students
• Communicate effectively with strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Engage and collaborate effectively with parents and families
• Collaborate with other teachers and contribute to a positive team environment
• Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the selection and utilization of library media materials and equipment, including the various technologies found in the media centers
• Experience with the organization, administration, and evaluation of a library media center, including ethical issues
• Familiarity with the role of the library media specialist as a resource person for students and professional staff in curriculum design and the integration of library media services in instruction

FLSA: Exempt

Salary: $53,889.00 - $87,325.91 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience
