Job Summary The Counselor AOD I – MC is a Registered AOD Counselor who, under supervision of a Certified AOD Counselor or Licensed Therapist, provides alcohol and drug treatment services to clients and their families, engages in treatment planning with therapists and case managers, and maintains clinical documentation in support of whole‑person care. Responsibilities As part of a multi‑disciplinary Case Management team, performs primary alcohol and drug counseling functions including screening, assessment, and intake. Provides one‑on‑one mentoring and support to clients. Teaches clients independent living and problem‑solving skills and encourages healthy lifestyle changes. Advocates for clients before outside social service and legal organizations. Collaborates with Case Manager and therapist to ensure critical linkages to support services for medical, mental health, housing, and education needs are delivered. Conducts crisis intervention. Leads or coordinates group, individual, and educational sessions. Coordinates treatment services with the multidisciplinary team. Conducts discharge and transition planning and drafts discharge summary. Meets regularly with supervisor and the multidisciplinary team to implement treatment protocols and ensure client success. Attends scheduled supervision meetings. Participates in shift exchange, case conferences, staff meetings, and other treatment team meetings. Maintains accurate records, both paper and electronic, documenting treatments and client progress, including medication self‑administration. Monitors medication self‑administration and collects drug screens as required. Ensures records support client privacy rights under HIPAA and comply with state/federal law. Prepares reports required by funders. Adheres to professional standards of care and conduct, including ongoing education and training. Transports program participants to appointments, events, and meetings as needed. Assists with program and outreach events. Participates in telephone hotline coverage per training and procedure. Other duties as required to support SCADP mission and goals. Essential Duties Position is on‑site; incumbents must report to work on site each day of active employment. Screening and assessment: Perform client screening, intake, orientation, and assessment for residential admission and continuing stay criteria based on ASAM Criteria. Treatment and counselling: Deliver treatment using trauma‑informed and evidence‑based protocols. Provide individual, group, and family therapeutic counseling. Act as client advocate to agencies and persons when appropriate. Coordination within team: Respond to client crises and emergencies. Coordinate treatment services with multidisciplinary team members. Conduct discharge and transition planning; draft discharge summary. Record‑keeping: Provide complete, accurate documentation of all treatment in the Electronic Health Record system, ensuring HIPAA confidentiality. Professional development: Participates in routine clinical supervision. Attends staff meetings, case conferences, and required training to maintain quality of care. Completes required professional education and program training. Other duties as required, subject to change. Qualifications Requirements Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, and verifications of criminal history, references, employment, and education. Ability to work under emotional stress and with difficult or aggressive clients. Education Alcohol and Drug Counseling Registration by an approved accrediting organization (CCAPP, CADTP, or CADEE). Experience Minimum of 1 year experience providing SUD treatment services to the target population. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services related discipline. Bi‑lingual Spanish and English (written and verbal). Demonstrated experience with an Electronic Health Record system. Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs, Inc.
