Veterinary Enrichment Manager – ASPCA Location: Pawling, NY. The position will start remotely until the facility is ready for occupancy in May of 2025, after which it will be an in‑person position based in Pawling, NY. This location-based role requires the incumbent to live within a commuting distance to Pawling, NY by May1, 2025. The individual in this role is responsible for overseeing the R&R Center’s team of Care & Enrichment Technicians (CETs), developing, implementing and overseeing daily monitoring processes, meticulous data collection, and ample and open communication within and between teams. The successful candidate for this role has strong organizational and leadership skills, a positive attitude, and is a model of resilience and adaptability. The Manager, Care & Enrichment is highly collaborative, continually working with colleagues in behavior and veterinary to ensure each animal has holistic and individualized care. Recovery & Rehabilitation Center Overview & Upcoming Launch The R&R Center in Pawling, NY is a unique program dedicated to providing integrated sheltering, behavioral, and medical care for canine victims of cruelty. The R&R Center team works closely with ASPCA teams in New York City to help animals rescued in partnership with the NYPD. This position has a target start date of 3/10/2025 and is remote until the facility is ready for occupancy in May of 2025. Responsibilities Functional Duties (35%) Maintain working knowledge of all Care & Enrichment daily protocols, working with the Senior Director to ensure protocols are clear, concise, and up‑to‑date. Maintain working knowledge of all relevant regulatory requirements, and keep accurate records of compliance activities. Oversee cleaning and prep of animal holding area, enrichment provision, and feeding and watering of animals to ensure daily needs are met. Arrange daily animal care and enrichment tasks to optimize workflow and ensure efficiency. Assist in training and supervising volunteers in animal‑related tasks, communicating respect and gratitude for volunteer support. Collaborate with behavior and veterinary teams to ensure open and ample communication, excellent care, and close monitoring of every animal. Problem‑solve with Care & Enrichment Technicians, taking appropriate initiative to address day‑to‑day issues. Provide continual feedback to the Senior Manager to improve processes and minimize barriers to efficient work and high‑quality animal care. Contribute to ongoing development and refinement of daily care and enrichment SOPs, representing the interests of the Care & Enrichment Technicians. Audit data entered by Care & Enrichment Technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance for potential legal scrutiny. Assist in choreographing animal movement into and out of the shelter in a seamless, low‑stress manner. Perform daily checks of animal holding areas, spot cleaning, feeding, watering, and provide enrichment as needed. Hold team huddles at regular intervals to assess progress and re‑allocate resources. Develop, implement, and execute strategies to keep equipment and supplies organized, efficiently located, and in good repair. Monitor inventory and conditions of supplies, request additional supplies before stock is depleted. Perform daily rounds to ensure all animals are in appropriate enclosures and identify any safety concerns. People Management (50%) Explain protocols clearly, securing buy‑in from Care & Enrichment Technicians. Oversee the team’s daily cleaning, handling, enrichment, monitoring, and documentation. Conduct regular trainings on advances in the field and protocol proficiency. Assist in daily care and monitor adherence to all protocols. Provide kind coaching and address performance issues promptly. Ensure adherence to SOPs, set clear goals, and address conflict or concerns productively. Delegate tasks for growth, provide feedback, and conduct formal appraisals. Evaluate staffing levels, training needs, and provide feedback to the Senior Director. Recognize team accomplishments and provide engagement opportunities. Operational and Administrative Duties (15%) Attend and contribute to all relevant R&R Center and ASPCA meetings. Accurately track and report time, hours, and expenses for Care & Enrichment Technicians. Review time‑off requests and weekly hours worked. Steward R&R Center assets responsibly. Minimum one year of experience leading a team, directly or indirectly. At least two years of experience working in an animal shelter in a hands‑on role. Fear Free® Shelter Program certification (≈5hours) required or completed within 60days of hire. English (required). Qualifications Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a motor‑vehicle history check. Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time. Flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Fluent in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with shelter software or Salesforce is a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to witness animal suffering and remain calm; familiarity with humane euthanasia. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Compensation and Benefits Target hiring range: $68,000 - $73,000 annually.
