This position provides programmatic and administrative support for autism eligibility operations by coordinating intake activities, managing and maintaining eligibility documentation, communicating with applicants and providers, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of records in accordance with established policies and procedures. Supports efficient service delivery by serving as a liaison between the program, stakeholders, and internal staff to facilitate access to eligibility services.
- Initiates contact with individuals, families, and caregivers seeking autism eligibility services to confirm receipt of intake materials, explain next steps in the application process, provide guidance regarding required documentation, and respond to questions in accordance with established program policies and procedures.
- Collects, reviews, scans, uploads, organizes, and maintains applicant eligibility documentation within designated systems to support accurate case records and compliance with agency standards, confidentiality requirements, and program timelines.
- Monitors pending eligibility files for missing, incomplete, or outdated information. Conducts follow-up communication with applicants, caregivers, medical providers, schools, and other authorized sources to obtain required records and facilitate timely case progression.
- Responds to autism eligibility inquiries received by telephone, email, fax, written correspondence, and in-person contacts. Provides accurate program information, procedural guidance, referral options, and customer service to stakeholders while exercising discretion and professionalism.
- Serves as an active member of the eligibility team by providing backup coverage for staff functions, assisting with workflow management, participating in process improvement efforts, and supporting daily operations to ensure continuity of services.
- Participates in trainings, webinars, meetings, and professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of eligibility requirements, customer service standards, data systems, and best practices related to autism service access.
- Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned to support division goals, program initiatives, reporting needs, and service delivery priorities.
BHDD-OIDD is a part of the state's behavioral health and developmental disabilities agency, providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions and substance use disorders through a wholistic, streamlined and coordinated approach. OIDD assists in the planning, developing, coordinating, and funding services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of intellectual disability and related disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury and similar disability.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of general office administration practices, customer service principles, and basic records management, including the handling of confidential information in accordance with agency policies. Familiarity with standard business communication, proper grammar, and basic data entry procedures, as well as a working understanding of office technologies such as computers, scanners, email systems, and Microsoft Office applicants. An awareness of serving individuals with disabilities and supporting families and caregivers in a respectful, professional public service environment. Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and communicate clearly.
