Cardiovascular Technician I - Cath Lab - Full Time Days

Under general direction of the Cath Lab Manager, Director of Cardiovascular Services and Cath Lab Medical Director, the Cardiovascular Technician I works effectively in rendering individualized patient care to less acutely ill patients, critically and/or acutely ill patients. Patient care assignments include patient care, functioning as a scrub assistant to the physician for all diagnostic and coronary intervention procedures. Core Competencies Assists the physician by preparing and passing equipment catheters, instruments, manifold/pressure monitoring system for each diagnostic procedure, including but not limited to interventions such as PTCAS, stent implantations, directional atherectomy, rotational atherectomy and valvuloplasty, intraaortic balloon placement, endomyocardial biopsies, transseptal including brachial or radial approach, sones technique. Monitors patients ECG, blood pressure, arterial and right heart pressures and oxygen saturation readings. Prepares the room, trays, procedures and patients according to physician preference cards. Practices aseptic technique in opening sterile drape packs, catheters, equipment and supplies. Maintains a sterile field throughout each procedure. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves according to approved techniques. Cleanses skin immediately following procedure and applies dressings to puncture sites. Assists in cleaning and preparing the rooms for procedures to follow. Participates and records notes at weekly Cath Conferences. Provides health care services and maintains interpersonal relationships in own job category to all age groups as applicable to job functions. Maintains a safe working environment: Ensures gurneys are in locked position except when transporting, ensures side rails are in up position as indicated, keeps unit free of hazards/clutter, adheres to infection control guidelines, disposes of infectious waste properly, places sharps in proper containers. Answers the telephone promptly and courteously and relays calls/messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner. Communicates and assists in maintaining department equipment by: Removing broken equipment per policy, alerting appropriate resources of faulty/broken equipment, assuring management is aware of problem and action taken. Checks and refills supplies, identifies if last item is used. Assists with orienting new Cardio Vascular Technician to department, equipment, and routines. Maintains medication security to authorized personnel only. Participates in unit activities: Attends unit and Medical center staff meetings/inservices. Is responsible for reading and comprehending all posted minutes and memos, Hospital Performance Improvement process. Assists other team members by offering assistance to distribute the workload. Assists in maintaining well functioning unit. Experience Number of Years Experience: 3 Type of Experience: Procedural Areas; Cath Lab or ER, OR or as an EMT License / Certification Requirements Basic arrhythmia and/or 12-lead ECG course or equivalent work experience. BCLS or ACLS Certification. Compensation Range $41.45 - 67.09/hr
