Part Time RN

School Nurse (RN)

Leonard J. Tyl Middle School is seeking a part-time School Nurse (RN) for the 26-27 school year. This ten-month position follows the school calendar and is based on Tuesdays and Fridays only, not to exceed 14 hours per week. The workday consists of thirty (30) minutes before school and until the last regular bus leaves at the end of the day.

Salary: $50.60/hour

Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct care for all health-related injuries, accidents, illnesses, and chronic conditions
• Maintain and review student health records to identify and interpret present and potential health problems to staff
• Coordinate and monitor student medication and treatment
• Design, implement, and monitor individualized health care plans for students with health conditions
• Act as liaison between families, staff, health care providers, and community agencies regarding students' health needs
• Assist in planning for emergency care for illness or injury of students/staff on school premises
• Assist in the control and prevention of communicable disease
• Promote a healthful and safe school environment
• Participate in the establishment of health-related protocols and practices
• Fulfill the mandated reporting responsibilities related to child abuse and neglect
• Perform other non-instructional health-related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:

• Interpret medical information and provide school staff with an understanding of student health needs
• Use knowledge of child and adolescent development to support student health needs
• Ability to learn relevant computer software
• Work effectively with all segments of the educational community and general public
• Knowledge of the IEP and Section 504 process and related school district policies and procedures
• Knowledge of CT Immunization Requirements
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
• DCF Mandated Reporter Certification required
