Position Overview The Teacher Assistant role is responsible for providing classroom support to the Lead Teacher and completing daily tasks within a classroom environment.

- Schools: Elementary and Middle
- Assist teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.
- Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support with the potential of teaching small groups of students.
- Observe Lead Teachers improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
- Provide administrative support including but not limited to copies, hallway duty, organizing classroom materials, etc.
- Aids Lead Teacher in planning and presenting lessons and helps students learn.
- Participate in grade-level activities and school-wide functions, events, and trips.
- Provide consistent rewards and consequences for student behavior.
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students.
- Track student attendance and class schedules.
- Help students adjust, learn, socialize, and report to teachers about possible behavioral issues.
- Ensures classrooms are safe and tidy before and after student departure.
- Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch, and after school.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participating in annual three-week staff orientation and training.
- Partner with the SPED Team to review material taught in class with individual students who require additional support.
- Assist Lead Teacher by problem-solving and making timely determinations with classroom issues solution-focused.
- Establish, cultivates, and maintains a collaborative relationship with the Lead Teacher.
- Responsible for managing and reducing risk within the classroom with the support of the Lead teacher and seeking assistance when needed to resolve the matter.
- Complies with all federal, state, local laws and regulations, including those of the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
- Adheres to organization policies and procedures; promotes and supports mission, vision, and values, including developing and participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as outlined by School Leadership.

- Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

- High School Diploma/GED required
- Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification or willingness to pursue state certification, preferred
- Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
- Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Prolonged periods were spent sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee needs to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use fingers to type, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance; stoop/bend and reach, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear.
- Dexterity requires writing and operating standard office machines such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and calculators.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds.
