Data Scientist

SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking a Data Scientist that will be responsible for modeling complex business problems and discovering business insights through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques to solve key business problems, and help build a data-driven business culture in an industry where analytics is still an undefined competency.RESPONSIBILITIESUnderstand the assigned business challenge and develop a plan to identify, obtain, and analyze the necessary data to drive improved business performance Extract information from internal systems, industry reports, public information, field reports, and other data sources to identify statistical relationships and translate them into internal, operational insights Conduct statistical analyses, randomized controlled trials, and predictive modelingApply and integrate statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling to manage and manipulate complex high-volume data from a variety of sources Develop, analyze, and model operational, economic, management, and other organizational data Quantify the competitive performance of business segments Evaluate potential operational changes Design new approaches and methodologies, ideally using AI & ML algorithms when appropriateReview program data consistently to provide corrective action when necessary, based on information collected and current trends to maximize business performance Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels All other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in statistics, applied mathematics, data science, data analytics, or related discipline; graduate degree preferredMinimum of 1-4 years of experience in data scienceProficiency with data mining, predictive modeling, and statistical analysisFull proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or similar coding languages and platformsExperience with Fabric and Power BIBasic familiarity with Salesforce, Oracle, and GL/Financial dataStrong ability to concisely present and explain large amounts of information and complex methodsAbility to think analytically with great attention to detailShown experience in following complex instructionsAbility to work independently and in a team environmentWillingness to advance business ideas that are sometimes unstructured and without clearly defined outcomesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsShown understanding of business operationsActive listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedbackA few benefits offered include: (for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week)Medical and prescription drug plans that includes no additional cost vision coverage Dental plan 401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson matchPaid time off, holidays, and other paid leaves Employer paid Life, AD&D, and disability insurance No-Cost mental health tool and concierge with extensive work-life resourcesTuition reimbursement Adoption Assistance Gym Membership Discount Program The base pay range for this role is $92,300 - $138,500. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
