The unit provides an intermediate level of care between medical-surgical and intensive care, requiring RNs to recognize changes in patient condition, provide continuous monitoring, and respond promptly to changes in acuity.RNs on the IMCU collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide safe, comprehensive care.Position: Registered Nurse – IMCU/TelemetryStatus: Full Time, 36 hours/weekShift: Nights, 7:00 PM–7:00 AMSchedule: Self-schedulingPatient Ratio: 1:4 or 1:5Unit Size: 40 bedsThis position is ideal for an RN who is comfortable caring for complex adult patients, has strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, and can recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station is a private, 143-bed, multi-specialty hospital. The Medical Center is a certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center, a Certified Chest Pain Center, as well as a Level III Trauma Center. Additionally, we have achieved the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet® Designation.As a Registered Nurse on the Intermediate Care/Telemetry Unit, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients requiring continuous monitoring and an increased level of clinical support. You will assess patients, recognize changes in condition, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, and evaluate patient responses to care.The IMCU RN is responsible for maintaining patient safety, recognizing clinical deterioration, communicating changes in condition to the appropriate members of the care team, and coordinating care with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. The RN will practice within the Texas Nursing Practice Act and Baylor Scott & White policies and procedures.Essential Functions of the Role:Conduct detailed assessments of IMCU patients and prioritize care based on patient acuity, clinical condition, and changing needs.Continuously monitor patients for changes in cardiac rhythm, vital signs, neurological status, respiratory status, and other indicators of clinical deterioration.Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans for patients with complex medical conditions.Provide nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions, stroke, multi-organ dysfunction, and other conditions requiring intermediate-level monitoring.Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate significant findings promptly to physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team.Administer medications, treatments, and other interventions safely and accurately according to physician orders and established nursing standards.Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, patient responses, and changes in condition.Provide patient and family education related to diagnoses, medications, treatments, disease management, and discharge planning.Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.Safely delegate appropriate patient care activities based on patient condition, staff competency, and established policies.Respond appropriately to changes in patient acuity and prioritize interventions to maintain patient safety.Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, handoff communication, and other activities that support continuity of care.Promote a positive patient experience by establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining professionalism and respect.Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support the professional development of peers and other members of the healthcare team.Key Success Factors:Strong knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and standards of care.Ability to assess and care for adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions.Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.Ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately.Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and telemetry principles.Understanding of stroke care, cardiac conditions, multi-organ dysfunction, and other conditions commonly managed in an IMCU setting.Knowledge of medications, treatments, potential complications, and appropriate nursing interventions.Understanding of applicable nursing laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies.Ability to prioritize care and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced, higher-acuity environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and evidence-based nursing practice.Respect for professional nursing ethics, patient rights, confidentiality, and privacy.Basic computer skills, including electronic medical documentation, information security, email, and other systems used in the healthcare environment.We believe that all people should feel welcomed, valued and supported.Qualifications:Grad of an Accredited ProgramSpecialized field of study should be nursing.RN license.Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
