Engineering Test Technician

The Engineering Test Technician supports vehicle testing, data collection, troubleshooting, and validation activities for advanced vehicle technologies. In this role, you work closely with engineers and test teams to prepare vehicles, execute test procedures, document results, and assist with issue investigation. You play a key part in product development and validation programs by installing and operating test equipment, organizing test data for engineering review, and ensuring all activities follow established safety procedures and testing protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare test vehicles and support test execution activities in collaboration with engineering and test teams.
  • Install, operate, and maintain test equipment, sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Conduct vehicle testing in accordance with established procedures, engineering requirements, and validation plans.
  • Collect, document, and organize test data to support engineering analysis and review.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle, component, and test-system issues and assist with root cause investigations.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and verification activities before and after testing to ensure readiness and proper function.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to support product development and validation programs for advanced vehicle technologies.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing activities, observations, and results in a clear and organized manner.
  • Assist in the setup, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of test vehicles and test equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, testing protocols, and quality standards during test preparation and execution.
Essential Skills
  • Experience working on modern vehicle electrical, electronic, or mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, data acquisition equipment, or vehicle troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and follow detailed test procedures accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and contribute to root cause investigations.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers and test teams and document findings clearly.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle testing, validation, and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of CAN and vehicle networks sufficient to support testing and data collection.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Automotive Technology, Electronics, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting vehicle development, validation, testing, or prototype programs.
  • Familiarity with CAN tools, vehicle networks, instrumentation, and data logging systems.
  • Background supporting advanced automotive technologies and electronic vehicle systems.
  • Experience working in an engineering or research and development environment.
  • Ability to work systematically and maintain organized test records and documentation.
Work Environment

This role operates in a hands-on engineering and test environment focused on advanced automotive technologies. You work both in workshop and vehicle test settings, installing sensors and instrumentation, running data acquisition systems, and conducting vehicle tests according to defined procedures. Collaboration with engineers and test teams is frequent, and you follow established safety procedures and testing protocols at all times. The work involves handling modern vehicle electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, using diagnostic tools, CAN tools, and data logging equipment in a structured, process-driven environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
