Job Summary The general purpose of the position is to plan and coordinate the large number of communications in multiple media formats to ensure that the internal and external face of the College of Science and Mathematics adheres to the highest standards of communication. The position supports all five Strategic Priorities of the university’s Creating a Legacy Like No Other Strategic Plan: Learning (Providing Impactful Learning Experiences); Discovery (Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Discovery, Accelerating Students' Connection to Research and Creativity); Student Success (Educational Access and Value, Providing a Life-Changing University Experience); Community (Strengthening Community Stakeholders' Connection to AU); and Stewardship (Philanthropic Investment, Increasing Research Support). The holder of this position will work closely with the Provost’s Academic Communications Director, AU Communications and Marketing, and CSM leadership to maintain a positive public image, promote college and department programs, and publicize student and faculty achievements in alignment with university standards. The communications strategist will be responsible for producing content for the college newsletter and formatting it for both physical and digital publication. The position is responsible for the maintenance of the college and department websites as well as webpages devoted to alumni recognition and engagement. The position is responsible for maintaining the college’s social media presence, both of which serve to strengthen engagement with both the university community and the external community. The communications strategist will provide direction for all web-based marketing and recruiting campaigns. The position also serves as a key member of the planning hub for the numerous events that the college holds on a yearly basis. Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Communications and Marketing Strategy and Planning Maintain situational awareness of the College's priorities by attending college and departmental meetings and events, both on one's own initiative and as directed by the Dean & his leadership team. Exercise professional judgment in planning strategies to effectively develop and carry out communications and marketing initiatives to promote the College's programs, student and faculty achievements, etc. to internal and external constituencies. Present those strategies to the Dean and, as appropriate, to members of the Dean's leadership team. Content Development and Management Serve as the primary point of contact/interface with the college's subject matter experts (department chairs, designated faculty, deans. etc.) to capture/draft & produce/edit information to be delivered through various communications outlets (e.g., college & university website(s), Jagwire, college newsletter, department webpages, social media, etc.). Schedule, coordinate, and implement communication and marketing meetings. Coordinate involvement of project team members, as necessary. Develop and execute external and internal communications that promote, enhance, and protect the profile of the College of Science and Mathematics and support implementation of our programs and activities. Create, coordinate, and select photography and videography for print and electronic communications. Maintain effective working relationships with DCM communications specialists, editors, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, etc. Identify, document (record and/or write), and disseminate internal blurbs, stories, videos and/or news items as they pertain to the unit and notify DCM for consideration of broader dissemination (e.g., publication in Jagwire, media release, etc.). Capture, produce, and maintain a growing library of digital content, testimonials (images, videos, quotations), and written content which vividly conveys the experiences, people, achievements and initiatives of the college and its departments and special programs to support a variety of marketing, promotional, and informational needs. As assigned by the Dean and his team, serve as the College’s web publisher. Assist the college and our departments in generating and publishing image, video, and written content to maintain fresh, engaging, and informative web pages and digital billboards. In coordination with the Dean and his team, create & manage the schedule for how often each web page is reviewed for accuracy & relevancy by implementing the plan outlined in web governance. As assigned by the Dean and his/her team, utilize tools provided and/or endorsed by DCM to update content on the web and conduct a regular review for broken links, misspellings, etc. As assigned by the Dean and his/her team, conduct reviews of website and digital billboard content to ensure it is updated appropriately. Newsletter Utilize templates provided and/or endorsed by DCM to create print and digital issues of the College newsletter by aggregating content from a variety of sources and creating content as needed. Utilize tools provided and/or endorsed by DCM (Poppulo, mail chimp, listservs, etc.) to electronically distribute newsletters and other forms of communication or engagement (surveys, invitations/mailings, application processes, document repositories, calendar events, etc.). Meet content deadlines based on production schedules from Dean's office. Social Media Management Receive and edit content from subject matter experts for publication via social media. As assigned by the Dean and his/her team, curate content for social channels to meet regular posting standards. Utilize tools provided and/or endorsed by DCM to update content on social media (Facebook, Linkedln, Twitter, lnstagram, Snapchat, etc.). Event Management Provide assistance in planning, organizing, and carrying out ceremonial and other college events throughout the year. Generate content to advertise and market events and to provide appropriate post-event coverage to appropriate constituencies. Other Other duties as assigned by the Dean. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of three years of direct related communication/marketing experience. Excellent organizational, prioritization skills. Must confidentially, work independently and exercise sound judgement, high degree of professionalism, work well under pressure and manage deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications Degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, or related field. Additional Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated excellence in writing for publication, marketing and branding, web design and maintenance. Experience in newsletter/magazine production. Skills in photography, videography, and visual design. Demonstrated ability to work independently, work well under pressure, and manage deadlines successfully. Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position) Pay Band: B10 Salary Range: $52,500/annually - $54,080/annually Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
