Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Stepdown Discipline: RN Start Date: 08/24/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Summary The healthcare organization is seeking a Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) in Bismarck, North Dakota. This role involves providing care to adult and geriatric patients with a focus on cardiac, medical, and surgical conditions. The RN will deliver patient-centered care on a dedicated step-down unit, supporting patients with various diagnoses including cardiac procedures, respiratory conditions, and infectious diseases. Job Details Schedule: 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Required Qualifications: Active certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Valid license to practice as an RN. Two years of relevant experience is preferred but not required. Patient Care Responsibilities: Managing adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, Covid Bipap, general surgical procedures with cardiac history, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and other acute or chronic conditions. Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4-5, with occasional nights reaching up to 6 patients, and overflow care for PCU level patients at a ratio of 1:3. Clinical Skills: Ability to interpret telemetry strips, titrate and set rates for drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine. Team and Operational Details: Charge nurses are available on each shift and often take some patient assignments. Nurse aides and patient care techs are present, with a goal of maintaining a 1:10 nurse-to-patient ratio. Equipment and Technology: RNs are expected to troubleshoot Bipap, trachs, airvo, and other respiratory equipment. Telemetry monitors are in use, with portable monitors and monitoring stations staffed accordingly. Additional Notes: Orientation includes two 12-hour shifts on Friday and Saturday of the first week, with independence expected by the following Sunday. The unit may require floating to other areas such as Medical-Surgical or Emergency Department. Shift & Scheduling Notes: 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts, with rotations limited to once a week if applicable. Holiday and Float Requirements: Every other holiday. Floating to different units may be required, with a radius rule of 50 miles. RTO (Return to Office) Policy: Up to 7 days of time-off requests upfront; additional requests are not typically approved. Additional Requirements: No trauma level designation specified. Charting is performed in EPIC electronic medical record system. Other: No BSN required. Candidate must be willing to work in an acute care setting and adapt to changing unit needs.
