About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chair for its Department of Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidate will be a distinguished scholar with a proven track record in research, teaching, and academic mentoring, and will be responsible for leading the department in its mission to integrate engineering and physical sciences with biology to advance the understanding of biomedical problems and drive the development of therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical devices. This role requires a visionary leader who can work with the college and campus to align and execute the department's strategic plan, foster a culture of excellence, and promote cutting-edge, innovative curricula and multidisciplinary research collaborations. The Chair will also be tasked with maintaining a supportive environment for faculty, pursuing large-scale interdisciplinary funding, and engaging with industry and alumni to enhance the department's position as a leader in research and industry partnerships. Applicants for the Chair position must have an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline and a distinguished record of scholarship and professional achievement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in academic leadership, including experience in managing personnel, budgets, and academic operations. The role demands excellent leadership and management abilities, a commitment to fostering a respectful and supportive environment, and a proactive approach to mentoring and supporting the professional development of faculty. Strategic opportunities for the department include expanding curricular offerings, advancing research in areas of national importance, and elevating the department's visibility and ranking. The Chair will be expected to have a strong network and the ability to leverage connections for the benefit of the department, as well as a proven track record in fundraising.
